# Small business accountant in *Leduc* for owner-run companies

EverStone CPA works with incorporated businesses in Leduc entirely online — corporate tax, bookkeeping, payroll and plain advice from one Chartered Professional Accountant, at a fixed fee agreed before any work starts. Owners in Nisku, Leduc County, Beaumont and Devon are served the same way.

**Who we help here:** Fabrication and machine shops, energy-services contractors working out of the Leduc and Nisku business parks, trucking, warehousing and logistics firms near the airport, food processors, and the trades and local service businesses that grow alongside them.

**Quick answer:** A Leduc corporation deals with one sales tax — 5% GST, no [provincial sales tax](https://www.everstonecpa.com/glossary#pst) — but files two corporate returns, the federal T2 and the Alberta AT1. EverStone prepares both, keeps the books and runs payroll for Leduc businesses fully online, at a fixed fee quoted before work starts. For a Leduc business, published fees start at $100 for a personal return and $300 a month for bookkeeping.

Why EverStone

## An accountant for businesses that make, move and fix things

Leduc is an industrial city. The businesses here tend to own equipment, carry inventory or work in progress, employ crews whose hours move with contracts, and invoice customers who pay on their own schedule. A file like that needs more than a return in spring: it needs books that show margin by job or product line, payroll that stays right when the headcount changes, and a year end planned before it closes.

Every Leduc client works with one Chartered Professional Accountant who knows the file all year, not a different preparer each season. Meetings are by video call, documents move by secure upload, and the fee is fixed in writing before anything starts. There is no Leduc office, and nothing about the work needs one.

Alberta tax, as it lands in Leduc

## Fewer taxes to file, one extra return to remember

Alberta removes a sales tax and a payroll levy, then adds a provincial corporate return most owners do not expect.

### No provincial sales tax

Alberta charges **no PST at all**, so a Leduc business selling inside the province deals only with the 5% federal GST. For a fabricator or service company invoicing labour, materials and equipment time on the same job, that is one tax to apply correctly on every line rather than two.

### The lowest general corporate rate

Active business income eligible for the small business deduction is taxed at 11% combined in Alberta — 9% federal and 2% provincial — on a $500,000 limit. Above that limit the combined rate is 23%, built on Alberta’s 8% general rate, the lowest provincial general rate in Canada.

### No employer health tax

Alberta levies no provincial payroll tax. A Leduc employer’s statutory costs are CPP, EI and WCB-Alberta premiums. That keeps payroll simpler, but it does not remove the work of remitting on time and producing T4s that agree with the ledger.

Leduc’s industrial economy

## Accounting built for manufacturing, logistics and energy services

The City of Leduc describes its key sectors as advanced manufacturing, value-added food production, transportation and warehousing, energy and tourism, with emerging work in hydrogen and clean energy. Leduc County lists agriculture, energy services, food processing, manufacturing and transportation and logistics as its own growth sectors, and is home to Edmonton International Airport and the Nisku Business Park. Highway 2 and Class I rail run through the area.

Those industries share an accounting profile. They are capital-heavy, so [capital cost allowance](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/capital-cost-allowance-cca-classes-canada) decisions matter every year. They carry inventory or unbilled work, so cut-off at the year end decides the profit figure. And they employ people whose hours swing with contracts, so payroll and records of employment have to be right the first time.

The issue we see most often

## One corporate return filed, the second one missed

Most provinces let the CRA collect their corporate income tax, so a single T2 covers both layers. Alberta does not. A Leduc corporation files the federal T2 with the CRA and a separate AT1 with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration, with its own account, its own correspondence and its own instalment stream. Owners who incorporated elsewhere, or who used software that only produces the federal return, are the ones most often caught out. The federal return is accepted, nothing prompts the provincial one, and the gap surfaces later as provincial correspondence with interest attached.

The fix is to treat the two returns as one job. They draw on the same trial balance, so they should be prepared from the same closed year end, reviewed together and filed together. Instalments follow the same rule: once a corporation pays [instalments](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/corporations/corporation-payments/paying-instalments.html), it pays one stream to the CRA and another to Alberta, and a shortfall on either accrues interest on its own.

For a Leduc company that has grown quickly — a shop that took on a large fabrication contract, a carrier that added units, a contractor that won work in Nisku — the instalment base set by last year’s figures can be well off this year’s reality in either direction. We set instalments against the year you are actually having and revisit them when the pattern changes. [How corporate instalments work](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/corporate-tax-installments-canada) sets out the calculation methods.

How it works

## Getting started, on your schedule

Three steps, handled securely online around your working day.

1

### Send an enquiry

Tell us about your Leduc business by email or the quote form, and we come back with a fixed, no-obligation fee in writing.

2

### Send your records securely

Share your books and prior filings by secure upload, and authorize us through your CRA My Business Account. We take over GST, bookkeeping and both corporate returns from there.

3

### Stay compliant all year

We file on time, keep you current with the CRA and Alberta, and re-plan instalments and owner pay as the work changes.

## Leduc industries we work with most

The Leduc businesses we act for cluster around the same few activities the city and county name as their economic base. Manufacturing and fabrication shops carry equipment, raw materials and work in progress, so the year end turns on inventory counts and cut-off. Energy-services contractors working from the Leduc and Nisku business parks own trucks, tooling and shop assets, and their revenue moves with project and maintenance cycles. Transportation, warehousing and logistics firms near the airport and Highway 2 carry fleets, fuel and equipment financing. Food processors combine inventory, payroll and equipment in one file. Around them sit the trades, retailers and local service businesses that every growing community needs.

Two things recur across all of them. The first is equipment: the class an asset falls into, whether it is bought or leased, when it becomes available for use and how it is eventually sold or traded all move the tax result. The second is contract concentration. A business that bills one or two large customers for most of its year needs its receivables watched monthly, and a one-person consulting corporation billing a single operator sits in [personal services business](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/personal-services-business-psb-risk-canada) territory. Industry pages go deeper: [energy services accounting in Leduc](https://www.everstonecpa.com/energy-services-accountant-leduc) and [trades and contractors in Leduc](https://www.everstonecpa.com/trades-accountant-leduc).

Agriculture is part of Leduc County’s economy too, and farm operations bring their own questions about cash-basis reporting, equipment and succession. Where a client’s file has a farm alongside a corporation, both are looked at together rather than by two different people.

## How working with a Leduc business actually runs

Everything is remote, deliberately. A first conversation runs by video call or email. Documents move through a secure upload link rather than a courier or a drop-in, and signatures are electronic. You authorize us through the CRA’s Represent a Client service, which lets us read your notices, balances and slips directly instead of asking you to forward them. Through the year you can email a question and no bill follows, because the fee is fixed and agreed before any work begins. That matters most before a decision — a truck purchase, a new hire, a dividend — rather than after it.

The same CPA handles the file from start to finish, so the person who prepares your return is the person who answers your email. One practical point for Leduc owners: the City of Leduc requires all businesses operating within the city, including home-based and temporary businesses, to hold a business licence. That is a municipal matter rather than a tax one, but it is part of setting up properly, and it is worth confirming before you start trading there.

## What a Leduc client’s year looks like

Books stay current monthly, with bank and card feeds reconciled and GST prepared from the same ledger. Payroll runs on your schedule, with source deductions remitted on the date the CRA has assigned. Before the fiscal year closes, we look at where profit is landing and decide on bonuses, dividends, equipment timing and instalments while there is still room to act. After the [fiscal year-end](https://www.everstonecpa.com/glossary#fiscal-year-end), the statements, the T2 and the AT1 are prepared from the same closed figures, with the [balance owing](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/corporations/corporation-payments.html) due before the returns themselves. February brings T4 and T5 slips; spring brings the owners’ T1s. With no provincial sales tax and no provincial payroll levy, the compliance calendar is lighter than in most provinces — but the two corporate returns keep it from being simple.

We work with owner-managed businesses across Alberta. See [accounting in Alberta](https://www.everstonecpa.com/accountant-alberta) for the provincial picture, or the [Edmonton accountant page](https://www.everstonecpa.com/accountant-edmonton) for the metro region Leduc sits in.

Common questions

## Questions from Leduc business owners

**How much does an accountant cost in Leduc?**

We charge fixed fees, quoted in writing after we review your enquiry, so there are no hourly surprises. For a Leduc business, bookkeeping starts at $300 a month and a personal return at $100; corporate returns and year-end statements are quoted individually. [Published fees](https://www.everstonecpa.com/pricing) show where each service starts, and working with us from Leduc costs the same as anywhere else we work.

**Can an online accountant file my Alberta corporate returns?**

Yes. The T2 and the AT1 are prepared to federal and Alberta rules that do not depend on where the preparer sits, and both are filed electronically. Authorization is given online through the CRA and through Alberta’s own corporate tax account.

**How do we exchange documents securely?**

Through a secure upload link, which matters when records are spread across a corporate card, fuel cards, supplier accounts and a job-management tool. You upload as you go or export monthly; we reconcile and send returns back for e-signature. Nothing sensitive travels as an unencrypted attachment.

**Do you understand Alberta tax rules?**

Yes, including the separate AT1 corporate return, its own instalment schedule, the absence of a provincial sales tax and the absence of an employer health tax. Provincial specifics are part of the standard engagement, not an add-on. [Ask about your case →](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**Is there an EverStone office in Leduc?**

No. EverStone works fully online and has no office in Leduc or anywhere you would need to visit. Meetings are by video call, documents move by secure upload and returns are e-signed, so nothing about your filings depends on location.

**I buy a lot of equipment. How does that affect my taxes?**

Equipment is recovered through capital cost allowance at the rate set for its class, and the timing of a purchase, the choice between buying and leasing, and any later trade-in all change the result. We look at major purchases before they are made, as part of the engagement, not just at filing time.

**I sell to customers outside Alberta. What sales tax applies?**

Inside Alberta, 5% GST only. Selling into a harmonized province means charging that province’s HST rate instead, and selling goods or certain services into a province with its own sales tax can create a registration obligation there. We code sales by destination so the exposure is visible as it develops.

**Do I need a business licence in Leduc?**

The City of Leduc says all businesses operating within the city, including home-based and temporary businesses, need a licence. It is separate from your CRA business number and GST registration, and the city sets the categories and fees, so check its business licence page before you start trading there.

How it works remotely

## Working with a virtual accountant in Leduc

Alberta simplifies one thing and complicates another. There is no provincial sales tax, so a Leduc corporation deals with GST alone — one registration, one return, no non-recoverable provincial tax inside its costs. But Alberta administers its own corporate income tax, which means a provincial AT1 alongside the federal T2 and a separate [instalment](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/corporations/corporation-payments/paying-instalments.html) stream to track.

Working with us online means that coordination is handled rather than handed back to you: a secure upload link for records, video meetings at a time that suits a working shop or yard, e-signature approvals, and a single CPA who knows which filing is due when. For Leduc manufacturers, carriers and service companies the recurring questions are equipment timing, instalments and owner pay.

Alberta-wide considerations, including the separate provincial return, are covered on the [Alberta business](https://www.everstonecpa.com/accountant-alberta) page, and current rates on [Alberta tax facts](https://www.everstonecpa.com/alberta-tax-facts).

## Remote accounting

The firm operates virtually and serves Leduc remotely. **There is no Leduc office and no staff based there.** Everything runs by video call, email and secure document exchange, so nothing about the engagement depends on being nearby. The person who answers your question in March is the one who prepared the return the year before, which is the part a larger office structure tends to lose.

## How a remote engagement works in Alberta

Alberta is one of the most straightforward provinces for this, and a remote engagement removes the last reason to choose an accountant by driving distance.

- **Authorization, not paperwork.** You authorize us on the CRA’s Represent a Client through your CRA My Business Account, a few clicks on your side, no forms in the mail. That lets us see your filings, balances and notices directly.

- **Documents move by secure upload link.** Bank statements, payroll records and year-end files are sent by secure upload link, never as email attachments. You can send from a phone in the shop or the cab.

- **Signatures are electronic.** Your T183 and engagement letter are signed in a browser. Nothing is printed, scanned or couriered.

- **Meetings are by video.** Year-end reviews, planning conversations and first enquiries all run this way, at a time that suits your working day.

- **Filing is electronic to the same places it always was.** The T2 goes to the CRA and the AT1 to Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration, both transmitted electronically.

### What is specific to Alberta

Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so there is no PST registration and no provincial sales-tax return — GST alone. What Alberta does have is a separately administered corporate income tax, which means an Alberta corporation files the AT1 in addition to the federal T2. That is the single most common surprise for owners who incorporated elsewhere and moved, or who set up a new Alberta company with software that only handles the federal return.

If you are comparing firms first, [what to ask an accountant in the Edmonton region before you sign](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/choosing-an-accountant-edmonton) is written for exactly that.

Current Alberta rates and thresholds live on the [Alberta tax facts page](https://www.everstonecpa.com/alberta-tax-facts). Each figure there carries its source and the date it was checked, kept in one place rather than repeated across the site where it would go stale.

### Alberta questions we get

**Do I file a separate Alberta corporate return?**

Yes. Alberta administers its own corporate income tax, so an AT1 is filed with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration alongside the federal T2. Both are handled as one engagement here.

**Is there any Alberta sales tax to register for?**

No provincial sales tax exists in Alberta, so GST is the only sales-tax registration in play. If you sell into provinces that do have one, place-of-supply rules can still pull you into their systems.

**Do you work with businesses outside Leduc itself?**

Yes. EverStone works remotely, so businesses in Nisku, Leduc County, Beaumont, Devon and around Edmonton International Airport are served exactly as Leduc ones are: video, email and a secure upload link, at the same fixed fees.
