# Accountant for *Lloydminster* businesses on the Alberta side

EverStone CPA works with Lloydminster owners entirely online: corporate tax, the Alberta AT1, bookkeeping, payroll and GST from one Chartered Professional Accountant, at a fixed fee agreed before work starts. This page serves businesses on the Alberta side of the city and Alberta corporations.

**Who we help here:** oilfield service companies, welding and fabrication shops, electrical and mechanical trades, hauling and hot-shot operators, and farm suppliers. Owners in Vermilion, Kitscoty and the County of Vermilion River are served the same way.

Why EverStone

## An Alberta CPA for Lloydminster’s working economy

Lloydminster sits on the Alberta and Saskatchewan border along the Yellowhead Highway, in heavy oil and farm country. Its business mix leans on oilfield services, trades and trucking, plus retailers and farm suppliers.

You work with one Chartered Professional Accountant who knows your numbers all year. Questions come by email, meetings happen by video when they help, documents arrive through a secure upload link, and returns are signed electronically.

### What Lloydminster owners get

One CPA for tax, books & advice

- Corporate tax: the T2 and the Alberta AT1 together

- Personal tax (T1) for owners & families

- Monthly bookkeeping & payroll

- GST filed, no PST return required

- Costs tracked by job, unit and truck

- Fixed fees, agreed up front

## Which return applies to you

Which return applies to you
The structure you trade under decides the return — for a business operating on the Alberta side of Lloydminster

| If you are | You file |

| A sole proprietor | A T1 personal return with form T2125 for the business |

| An incorporated business | A federal T2 with the CRA and an Alberta AT1 with Tax and Revenue Administration |

| A partnership | A T5013 partnership return where required, plus each partner’s own return |

| Sales tax where you operate | 5% GST only. Alberta levies no provincial sales tax |

Alberta tax, in practice

## What Alberta adds for a Lloydminster business

A light provincial layer, with one return owners often miss.

### No provincial sales tax

Alberta charges **no PST at all**, so sales within the province carry only the 5% federal GST. One registration, one return.

### Corporate rates

Active business income eligible for the small business deduction is taxed at **11% combined** (9% federal plus 2% Alberta) on a $500,000 limit. Above it the combined rate is 23%, built on Alberta’s 8% general rate. See the [Alberta tax facts page](https://www.everstonecpa.com/alberta-tax-facts).

### Two corporate returns

Alberta collects its own corporate income tax. A corporation files the AT1 with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration as well as the T2 with the CRA.

## The Alberta side of a border city

Lloydminster is one city in two provinces. EverStone works with businesses on the Alberta side and with Alberta corporations. We do not take on Saskatchewan-based businesses.

The border still shows up in Alberta files through customers and trucks that cross it. GST stays at 5% on an Alberta sale. Selling into a province with HST or its own PST can change that, because the rate follows the place of supply rather than your address. Our [place of supply guide](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/gst-hst-place-of-supply-rules-canada) sets out the tests.

Mention any Saskatchewan yard, staff or contracts in your first email, and we will say plainly whether the file fits.

The work that leads here

## Oil and gas service companies: what the books need

Oilfield service files turn on equipment, crews and customers who pay slowly. Pickers, pressure trucks, steamers and service rigs belong in the right [capital cost allowance class](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/capital-cost-allowance-cca-classes-canada), and timing a purchase around year-end changes the deduction.

Field tickets and master service agreements bring long payment terms. The books need receivables aged by customer, work in progress at year-end, and costs by job or unit. That shows which work pays.

### Oilfield files we see

Fluid hauling, well servicing, rentals, fabrication and safety companies, most of them owner-run.

More on the sector: [energy services accounting in Edmonton](https://www.everstonecpa.com/energy-services-accountant-edmonton).

## Trades and trucking on the Yellowhead

Local trades work for the oilpatch, farms and homeowners alike. Where construction is the main activity, subcontractor payments are reported on [T5018 slips](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/t5018-subcontractor-reporting-construction). WCB-Alberta, holdbacks and vans follow. Our [Alberta contractor page](https://www.everstonecpa.com/contractor-accountant-alberta) covers the detail.

Haulers need fuel-tax records, distance by jurisdiction and trade-ins recorded properly. Long-haul drivers may claim meals; our [per diem guide](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/trucking-per-diem-meal-claims-canada) explains how. Owner-operators: see our [trucking page](https://www.everstonecpa.com/accountant-for-truckers).

## Payroll for crews and drivers

Alberta has no provincial payroll tax, so an Alberta employer deals with federal source deductions plus WCB-Alberta reporting. Rotations, overtime and Alberta general holiday pay need correct setup from the first pay run.

Crews that grow in winter and shrink at spring break-up mean frequent hires and records of employment. We run pay, remit on the CRA schedule, issue ROEs and file T4s by the end of February, inside monthly bookkeeping.

## Year-end, the AT1 and paying yourself

The T2 is due within six months of year-end, and the balance owing generally three months after it for a corporation claiming the small business deduction. Instalments run to Alberta as well as to the CRA.

We plan before year-end, not after. The salary and dividend mix, any bonus to accrue, and equipment purchases are settled while they can still help. The [salary vs dividends calculator](https://www.everstonecpa.com/salary-vs-dividends-calculator) shows the trade-off.

Not incorporated yet? See [when incorporating starts to pay](https://www.everstonecpa.com/incorporation-advice). Behind on the books? [Catch-up bookkeeping](https://www.everstonecpa.com/catch-up-bookkeeping) comes first.

Common questions

## Common questions from Lloydminster owners

**How much does an accountant cost in Lloydminster?**

Fees are fixed and quoted in writing before work starts. Personal returns start from $125 and monthly bookkeeping from $325 a month; corporate returns are quoted individually. [Published fees](https://www.everstonecpa.com/pricing) show where each service starts. [Ask about your case →](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**Do you work with businesses on the Saskatchewan side?**

No. We serve businesses on the Alberta side of Lloydminster and Alberta corporations. A Saskatchewan-based business needs a firm that works in that province.

**Does my Lloydminster corporation file a separate Alberta return?**

Yes. A corporation with a permanent establishment in Alberta files the AT1 with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration in addition to the federal T2. We prepare both from the same year-end file.

**Do I charge PST on sales from the Alberta side?**

No. Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so sales within Alberta carry 5% GST only. Selling into a province with HST or its own PST can change that, because the rate follows the place of supply.

**Does EverStone have a Lloydminster office?**

No. EverStone works online, by email, video meeting, secure upload and e-signature.

**Do you work with businesses outside Lloydminster itself?**

Yes. Businesses in Vermilion, Kitscoty and the County of Vermilion River are served exactly as Lloydminster ones are, at the same fixed fees.
