# Corporate tax accountant for *Chilliwack* corporations

A Chilliwack supply-managed farm usually holds its single most valuable asset — quota — on the depreciation schedule, and often across more than one company. Both facts shape the return. EverStone prepares it remotely for [Chilliwack businesses](https://www.everstonecpa.com/accountant-chilliwack).

**Quick answer:** Milk and egg quota is Class 14.1 depreciable property rather than an ordinary asset, and Chilliwack farm groups often run several associated corporations that share one business limit. Both determine the T2 result. EverStone prepares the return remotely at a fixed fee. A single-owner trades business bundling its bookkeeping, payroll and annual T2 generally pays between $500 and $700 each month.

The year-end covers the T2 with Schedule 1 and Schedule 50, the CCA schedule, the small business deduction, T4 or T5 slips for the owner’s pay, and the instalments for the year ahead.

Quota is depreciable property, so trimming a holding is a disposal.

## Quota sits on the capital asset schedule

Quota is often the largest item on a Chilliwack farm balance sheet. Milk and egg quotas are Class 14.1 property: additions after 2016 enter at 100% of cost and depreciate at 5% declining balance, while pre-2017 property has a transitional 7% rate for tax years ending before 2027. Class 14.1 replaced eligible capital property on 1 January 2017, so older farms may have mixed balances. See [Dairy quota accounting](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/dairy-quota-accounting-bc).

## Selling or transferring quota is a disposal

Because quota is depreciable, moving it works like moving equipment: proceeds above the class’s undepreciated balance are recaptured into income in the year of disposal, with no signal beyond the sale itself. A Chilliwack producer trimming or expanding quota can create taxable income in an ordinary year. Quota moved between related corporations must still be priced and reported, and skipping the tax decision first turns a routine reorganization into an expensive one.

## One business limit across the family group

Local farm groups often use several companies for operations, land, a second commodity or generation. That helps liability and succession, but associated corporations share one $500,000 [small business deduction](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/forms-publications/publications/t4012.html) limit. Without a deliberate allocation, income taxed at 11% can be taxed at 27%. See [Associated corporations](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/associated-corporations-small-business-deduction).

## Rent between related companies

Where one company owns the land or barns and another farms them, the rent between them is not neutral. Property income is generally not active business income, so the landholding company’s rent may not qualify for the small business deduction, unless specific rules treat rent from an associated active business as active. The arrangement can work, but only if set up for that outcome and documented. An arbitrary charge between two family companies causes problems, because the figure must be supportable as a real charge.

## The generational question is on the return

Supply-managed farms are hard to pass on because value sits in assets that are hard to split. Family farm corporation shares may transfer to a child tax-deferred if asset-use conditions are met over several years, as the records show. Check eligibility while you can still fix it. See [Farm succession and the rollover](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/farm-succession-rollover-canada).

## Where the ordinary numbers still matter

Routine work remains: code feed, fuel, vet costs, repairs and labour; put equipment in its [capital cost allowance](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/capital-cost-allowance-cca-classes-canada) class; split sale animals from breeding stock. BC’s 11% and 27% combined rates on a $500,000 limit then apply. The farm specifics sit on top of a normal corporate return.

## Prepared online, filed electronically

EverStone is a fully virtual, one-CPA firm with no Chilliwack office or local staff. Records arrive by secure upload, quota and asset schedules are checked against the documents, and the return is e-signed and transmitted. For a multi-company farm group, a sole practitioner offers continuity: one CPA sees the whole structure rather than each company in isolation.

Quota purchases and group decisions need a target set in advance, which is what [budgeting and forecasting](https://www.everstonecpa.com/budgeting-and-forecasting) provides; a December guess does not.

The companion page on [the Chilliwack personal tax page](https://www.everstonecpa.com/personal-tax-accountant-chilliwack) covers that side of the work.

If [Chilliwack bookkeeping](https://www.everstonecpa.com/bookkeeping-chilliwack) and [tax preparation in Chilliwack](https://www.everstonecpa.com/personal-tax-accountant-chilliwack) is the more pressing job, start there instead.

## Who this is for, and who it is not

For Chilliwack farm groups and corporations wanting one CPA across every company, at an agreed price. Not for price-only buyers or weekly kitchen-table visits. Work runs online, and [fees do not change](https://www.everstonecpa.com/pricing) with distance.

## What happens when you get in touch

Bringing a Chilliwack operation on board takes three steps.

- **An initial free conversation.** Half an hour on the companies, the quota, past filings and anything outstanding. The fixed fee is then set out in writing, with no obligation.

- **Access through the CRA.** Being [authorized on each company](https://www.everstonecpa.com/forms/aut-01) lets us see balances and notices directly. If another firm has the files, [the handover request](https://www.everstonecpa.com/switching-accountants) goes out that week.

- **Up to date across the group.** Each company’s books are closed, late returns are filed from the oldest year, and the next year of [T2 and instalment deadlines](https://www.everstonecpa.com/t2-deadline) is scheduled.

[Send an enquiry](https://www.everstonecpa.com/book-online), or [ask a question first](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question). Either one goes straight to the CPA.

Common questions

## Chilliwack corporate tax questions

**How is milk quota treated for tax?**

Milk and egg quotas are Class 14.1 property. Additions after 2016 are included at 100% of cost and depreciated at 5% declining balance, while property held from before 2017 carries a transitional 7% rate for tax years ending before 2027. [Ask about your case →](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**Why did selling quota create a tax bill?**

Because quota is depreciable property. Proceeds above the remaining undepreciated balance in the class are recaptured into income in the year of disposal, so a sale can produce taxable income even in an otherwise ordinary operating year.

**Do my three farm companies each get $500,000?**

No. Associated corporations share one $500,000 business limit and must allocate it between them. Where the allocation is not made deliberately it can be assigned, moving income from the 11% rate to 27%.

**Is rent between my land company and farm company deductible?**

It can be, but it has to be a supportable amount for what is provided. Rent received is generally income from property rather than active business income, which affects whether it qualifies for the small business deduction in the recipient company.

**Do you have an office in Chilliwack?**

No. EverStone serves Chilliwack corporations remotely. Documents move by secure upload and the return is e-signed, so nothing requires a trip down the highway.

**Can the farm corporation pass to my children tax-deferred?**

Shares of a family farm corporation can qualify for a tax-deferred transfer to a child, subject to conditions about how the assets have been used over a period of years. Eligibility depends on the record rather than the intention.

**What does a corporate tax return cost in Chilliwack?**

Same published fees. A T2 is quoted after reviewing your books and structure; a one-owner trades corporation with bookkeeping, payroll and year-end usually pays $500 to $700 a month. [The fee schedule](https://www.everstonecpa.com/pricing) is published.

**Do you work with businesses outside Chilliwack itself?**

Yes. Sardis, Vedder Crossing, Yarrow, Rosedale and Agassiz are covered on the same terms as Chilliwack proper, with meetings by video or phone, records through a secure upload link and unchanged fixed fees.
