# Corporate tax accountant in *Kitchener-Waterloo*

A Waterloo Region T2 carries Ontario tax on the federal return, and often a research claim, a refund and a control question. EverStone prepares returns for [Kitchener-Waterloo businesses](https://www.everstonecpa.com/accountant-kitchener-waterloo) remotely, at a fee fixed after review.

**Quick answer:** A Kitchener-Waterloo corporation files one T2 that carries both federal and Ontario tax, due six months after year-end, with the balance generally due two or three months after year-end. Ontario adds its own annual return through the Ontario Business Registry. EverStone prepares the T2, the year-end statements, any SR&ED claim on Form T661 and the Ontario filings, remotely and at a fixed fee. For a one-owner trades corporation, bookkeeping, payroll and the year-end T2 together usually run $500–$700 a month.

For a one-owner Kitchener-Waterloo corporation, monthly bookkeeping, payroll and the year-end T2 corporate tax return with statements usually cost from $500 to $700 a month all-in.

## One return, federal and Ontario together

The CRA administers Ontario corporate tax, so there is no separate return: Ontario schedules ride on the T2, adding the provincial small-business rate. Ontario cut that rate part-way through 2026, so straddling years are blended.

See the [Ontario tax facts page](https://www.everstonecpa.com/ontario-tax-facts) for rates. In short: keep active income within the business limit, and do not let passive investment income shrink it. [The passive income rule](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/small-business-deduction-passive-income-canada) explains.

## CCPC status is worth more here than most places

A Canadian-controlled private corporation gets the small business deduction and the enhanced refundable SR&ED credit. Raising money can end that: if non-residents or a public corporation gain control, directly or via share rights, CCPC status can go in the year of the round, changing the rate and the cash refund. We review the register and term sheet before closing.

## SR&ED on Form T661, filed with the return

The research claim is part of the T2: Form T661 describes projects and spending, and the schedules compute the credit, refundable for a CCPC, which helps startups with no tax. Two traps: government assistance generally reduces eligible spending, and founder dividends are not research wages. See the [SR&ED expenditure limit](https://www.everstonecpa.com/tax-update/sred-expenditure-limit) update and [tech startup accounting in Kitchener-Waterloo](https://www.everstonecpa.com/tech-startup-accountant-kitchener-waterloo).

## Equipment and capital cost allowance

For manufacturers, contractors and carriers, capital cost allowance is often the biggest deduction. Equipment is pooled by class, and year-end timing changes the claim; machinery, heavy trucks and cars differ. Discuss big purchases first. See [CCA classes](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/capital-cost-allowance-cca-classes-canada) and [manufacturer accounting in Kitchener-Waterloo](https://www.everstonecpa.com/manufacturer-accountant-kitchener-waterloo).

## The Ontario annual return is a separate filing

Ontario corporations file an Ontario Business Registry annual return within six months of year-end, separate from the T2, so a perfect tax return can still leave you out of good standing. We diarise it to your year-end.

## Getting money out: salary, dividends and loans

Pay method changes both returns. Salary is deductible and builds CPP and RRSP room; dividends are not deductible but simpler. For research founders, only salary counts toward the SR&ED wage base. Shareholder loans not repaid within one year after year-end are generally taxed as income. Try the [salary vs dividends calculator](https://www.everstonecpa.com/salary-vs-dividends-calculator).

## Instalments once the company turns a profit

A corporation owing tax generally pays instalments the next year. The first instalment year, for a newly profitable startup or contractor, often goes wrong. We set instalments at filing and warn you before the first. See the [instalment calculator](https://www.everstonecpa.com/tax-instalment-calculator).

## Who this is for, and who it is not

For a Kitchener-Waterloo corporation wanting one CPA, a written fee before work and an on-schedule year-end. Not if lowest price matters most or you need weekly on-site help. Work runs by video, upload and e-signature, and [the fee is the same](https://www.everstonecpa.com/pricing) everywhere.

## What happens when you get in touch

A Kitchener-Waterloo corporation is onboarded the same way as one next door, and on the same fixed fee.

- **A free thirty-minute conversation.** What the company does, what has been filed, and what is overdue. You leave with a fixed fee in writing and no obligation to take it.

- **Authorization, in the first week.** We are [authorized with the CRA](https://www.everstonecpa.com/forms/aut-01), so balances and notices are looked up rather than requested from you. If you are switching firms, your file is requested the same week.

- **Current, then ahead.** Books brought to a closing position, anything overdue scheduled oldest year first, and the next twelve months of T2 and instalment dates set before they arrive.

[Send an enquiry](https://www.everstonecpa.com/book-online), or [ask one question first](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question) — both reach a CPA, not a queue.

Common questions

## Kitchener-Waterloo corporate tax questions

**How much does a corporate tax return cost?**

A T2 on its own is quoted after we review your enquiry, because a pre-revenue startup with a research claim and an established contractor with a fleet are different jobs. The fee is fixed in writing before any work starts. [Ask about your case →](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**Will raising money affect my CCPC status?**

It can. If non-residents or a public corporation gain control, directly or through rights to acquire shares, the company may stop being a CCPC, losing the small business deduction and the enhanced refundable SR&ED credit. Review it before the round closes.

**Is there a separate Ontario corporate tax return?**

No. Ontario corporate tax is administered by the CRA and filed on the federal T2. The separate Ontario filing is the annual return through the Ontario Business Registry, which is a registry filing rather than a tax one.

**Do my two companies share the small business limit?**

If associated, generally yes: corporations under common control share one limit, allocated yearly. Founders with a holdco or contractors with an equipment company should expect it. See [Associated corporations](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/associated-corporations-small-business-deduction).

**When is my first T2 due after incorporating?**

Six months after the end of the first fiscal year, which you choose when the first return is filed. Picking that year-end deliberately is worth a conversation.

**Can you take over from my current accountant mid-year?**

Yes. We request the prior returns and working papers with your authorization and pick up from the last filed year. [Switching accountants](https://www.everstonecpa.com/switching-accountants) explains the steps.

**Do you work with businesses outside Kitchener-Waterloo itself?**

Yes. Corporations based in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and the townships of Waterloo Region have their T2 prepared exactly as Kitchener-Waterloo ones do, remotely and at the same fixed fee.
