**Quick answer:** The Canadian tax deadlines that cost money are usually the payment deadlines, not the filing ones. A [T2 corporate return](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/corporations/corporation-income-tax-return.html) is filed six months after your [fiscal year-end](https://www.everstonecpa.com/glossary#fiscal-year-end), but the [balance owing](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/corporations/corporation-payments.html) is due within two to three months for most small corporations. Personal tax (T1) is due April 30 — June 15 to file if self-employed, but pay by April 30. GST/HST, payroll and slips each have their own dates below.

Half your deadlines are fixed; the rest depend on your year end.

Dates that land on a weekend or public holiday shift to the next business day, and instalment obligations may apply through the year. General information, not advice.

## Small business tax deadlines: corporate tax (T2)

Your fiscal year-end sets your dates — most owners get the two mixed up.

Corporate filing and payment dates
| Deadline | When |
| Balance owing | 3 months after fiscal year-end (CCPC claiming the small-business deduction); 2 months otherwise. Interest starts the day after. |
| T2 return filing | 6 months after fiscal year-end. Late filing brings penalties on top of interest. |
| Corporate instalments | Monthly or quarterly through the year if your prior tax exceeded the threshold. |

## Personal tax (T1)

Personal filing and payment dates
| Deadline | When |
| Filing (most people) | April 30, 2026 . |
| Filing (self-employed) | June 15, 2026 — but any balance owing is still due April 30. |
| Balance owing | April 30, 2026 (for everyone, including the self-employed). |
| RRSP contribution | March 2, 2026 (first 60 days) to count for the 2025 tax year. |
| Personal instalments | March 15, June 15, September 15, December 15. |

## GST/HST

Frequency depends on your revenue and what you elected.

GST/HST filing dates by reporting period
| Deadline | When |
| Annual filer, corporation (Dec 31 year-end) | File and pay by March 31. |
| Annual filer, sole proprietor (Dec 31 year-end) | File by June 15; balance owing due April 30. |
| Annual filer (other year-end) | File and pay 3 months after your fiscal year-end. |
| Quarterly filer | 1 month after the end of each quarter. |
| Monthly filer | 1 month after the end of each month. |

## Payroll & information slips

Payroll remittance dates by remitter type
| Deadline | When |
| Source deductions (regular remitter) | 15th of the month after you pay employees. |
| T4 / T5 slips | Filed with the CRA and given to recipients by the last day of February ( March 2, 2026 ). |
| [T5018](https://www.everstonecpa.com/glossary#t5018) (construction subcontractors) | 6 months after your reporting-period end. |

Dates reflect 2026 CRA deadlines; where a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday the CRA generally accepts the next business day. This is general information, not advice specific to your situation — we confirm your exact dates as part of your engagement.

Common questions

## Tax deadline FAQ

**When is the corporate tax (T2) deadline in Canada?**

A T2 return is due six months after your corporation’s fiscal year-end. However, any balance owing is generally due within three months of year-end for a CCPC claiming the small-business deduction (two months otherwise) — so the payment deadline usually comes before the filing deadline. [Ask about your case →](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**When are personal taxes due in 2026?**

April 30, 2026 for most people. If you or your spouse are self-employed, the filing deadline is June 15, 2026, but any balance owing is still due April 30.

**What is the RRSP contribution deadline for 2025 taxes?**

March 2, 2026. Contributions made in the first 60 days of the year can be applied to the previous tax year.

**How often do I file GST/HST?**

Monthly, quarterly or annually depending on your revenue and election. Monthly and quarterly returns are due one month after the period. Annual filers file and pay three months after their fiscal year-end — March 31 for a corporation with a December 31 year-end — and only a sole proprietor with a December 31 year-end files by June 15, with any balance due April 30. Every date is on the [GST calendar for 2026](https://www.everstonecpa.com/gst-filing-deadlines#gst-calendar-2026).

**What happens if I miss a CRA deadline?**

The CRA charges interest on late payments from the day after they were due, plus a late-filing penalty on returns filed after the deadline (which increases for repeat late filing). Filing on time even when you can’t pay in full avoids the filing penalty. We keep every deadline tracked so you never get caught.

**What happens when a CRA deadline falls on a weekend or holiday?**

CRA generally treats a return or payment as on time if it is received on the next business day, which quietly moves several dates each year. That safe harbour does not stretch to everything — payroll source deductions in particular have their own rules about when funds are considered received. Do not build a habit around the extra day; treat it as a buffer, not a plan.

**Which deadlines apply to me if I am incorporated?**

More than most owners expect: the T2 return and its separate payment date, corporate instalments if you owe enough, GST/HST returns on your assigned frequency, payroll remittances if anyone takes a salary, T4 and T5 slips early in the calendar year, and your own personal T1. They run on different clocks, which is exactly why a single calendar beats remembering each one.

**When are taxes due in Canada?**

For individuals, April 30; self-employed people file by June 15, but any balance is still due April 30. For corporations, the balance is due two or three months after year-end and the T2 return six months after. GST/HST follows your filing frequency. The [T2](https://www.everstonecpa.com/t2-deadline#deadline-checker), [personal tax](https://www.everstonecpa.com/personal-tax-deadline#deadline-checker) and [GST/HST](https://www.everstonecpa.com/gst-filing-deadlines#deadline-checker) calculators work out your own dates.

## What happens when you get in touch

Knowing every date is one thing; having someone else keep them is another. This is how that starts.

- **A free thirty-minute conversation.** What you do, what is filed and what is overdue. You leave with a fixed fee in writing and no obligation to take it.

- **Access, in the first week.** We are [authorized with the CRA](https://www.everstonecpa.com/forms/aut-01), so notices and balances get looked up rather than requested from you. If you are [switching firms](https://www.everstonecpa.com/switching-accountants), your file is requested the same week.

- **Current, then ahead.** Books set up or brought current, anything overdue scheduled oldest year first, and the next twelve months of deadlines set before they arrive.

[Send an enquiry](https://www.everstonecpa.com/book-online), or [ask one question first](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question) — both go to a CPA, not a queue.

## Who this is for, and who it is not

This suits an owner who wants every date in one place. It does not replace a calendar built around your own year-end, which is what [the deadline calculator](https://www.everstonecpa.com/t2-deadline-calculator) produces from a single date.

## Where we work

The fee is the same wherever you are.
