# Financial statements for *Brampton* manufacturers, distributors and owner-run companies

For a company that makes or moves goods, two numbers decide most of what the year-end statements say: inventory and equipment. Count one carelessly or roll the other forward without checking, and profit, tax and the bank’s covenants all move with it. EverStone prepares year-end statements for incorporated Brampton companies, remotely. See the [Brampton accounting page](https://www.everstonecpa.com/accountant-brampton).

**Quick answer:** Year-end statements for an owner-managed Brampton company are typically a CSRS 4200 compilation. The decisions that shape them are how inventory is counted and valued, how equipment additions, disposals and loans are recorded, and whether revenue and costs land in the right year. For a one-owner Brampton corporation, bookkeeping, payroll and the year-end T2 with statements together usually run $450–$650 a month.

Filings built from the statements include the T2 with Schedule 1 and Schedule 50, the CCA schedule, and T4 or T5 slips for the owner’s pay. Financial statement preparation for Brampton companies follows CSRS 4200 and is quoted before the work starts.

## Why Brampton statements are inventory-heavy

Invest Brampton, the city’s economic development office, describes advanced manufacturing as Brampton’s largest employment sector and lists food and beverage processing and logistics among its key sectors. Year-end statements for companies in those sectors look different from a consultant’s. The balance sheet carries stock, work in progress, equipment, vehicles and the loans that financed them; the income statement depends on a cost-of-sales figure that is only right if the opening and closing inventory are right. A lender reading those statements is mainly asking whether the assets are real and the margin is believable.

## Inventory: the count, the cost and the write-down

Closing inventory is measured at the lower of cost and net realizable value on the year-end date. Three things go wrong most often. The count happens weeks after year end and is rolled back by guesswork. Cost is taken from the latest supplier price rather than the method the company actually uses. And slow-moving or expired stock stays on the books at full cost because nobody wanted to be the one to write it down.

For a food processor, shelf life makes the last point especially live: product near or past its date, or packaging for a discontinued line, belongs at what it can realistically be sold for. For a manufacturer, work in progress needs a consistent approach to the labour and overhead absorbed into it. We agree the count date and method before year end, review the count sheets against the ledger, and test the costing on a sample of lines. The [inventory count guide](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/year-end-inventory-count-canada) sets out a workable process.

## Equipment, vehicles and the fixed-asset register

Property, plant and equipment is the second large number. Each addition needs a date, a cost and a category; each disposal needs to be removed at its carrying amount with any gain or loss recognized. A register that is never reconciled to the floor ends up carrying machines that were scrapped years ago and missing the forklift bought in March. Accounting depreciation in the statements and capital cost allowance on the T2 are separate calculations, and the difference between them is reconciled on the return. The [CCA classes guide](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/capital-cost-allowance-cca-classes-canada) covers the tax side.

Equipment loans and leases sit alongside. The current portion of long-term debt — what is due in the next twelve months — is shown separately from the rest, which matters to any reader calculating working capital or testing a covenant. Interest belongs in the period it accrues, not when it is paid.

## Cut-off: revenue and costs in the right year

Goods shipped in the last days of the year are revenue of that year if the sale is complete; goods received but not yet invoiced by the supplier are a cost and a liability of that year. Freight and duty that arrive on separate bills a month later still belong to the inventory they brought in. For a company shipping daily, a few days of cut-off error at year end can move profit materially. We review shipping and receiving documents around the year-end date rather than relying on invoice dates alone.

## Customer concentration and receivables

Many Brampton suppliers sell to a small number of larger customers — a distributor, a retailer, a manufacturer further up the chain — often on extended terms. That is a business fact, not an error, but a lender or buyer wants to see it, not discover it. Where one customer is a substantial share of revenue or receivables, the statements should say so. A clear receivables aging also explains a cash position that would otherwise look inconsistent with reported profit, and it is the basis for identifying specific bad debts at year end.

## Payroll accruals and shareholder balances

Wages earned but unpaid at year end, accrued vacation pay and employer health tax for the year are liabilities on the year-end date. So is a bonus declared to the owner and paid within the allowed period after year end. The shareholder loan account deserves its own attention: money taken out of the company that was not declared as salary or dividends sits there, and a balance owed by the owner that is not repaid within the time allowed is generally taxed as income. The [shareholder loans guide](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/shareholder-loans-canada-taking-money-out-of-corporation) explains the rule.

## What a compilation covers, and what it does not

A CSRS 4200 compilation engagement assembles and presents information management supplies. The accountant does not test the inventory count, confirm the receivables or express any opinion or conclusion. It is neither an audit nor a review, and the statements carry a notice saying so. For most owner-managed Brampton companies that is the right product, and it is what the T2 and most bank relationships need.

The point at which it stops being enough is usually a transaction or a larger facility: a lender extending a line secured on inventory and receivables, a buyer or partner coming in, or a contract that requires reviewed statements. Each brings a reader who wants assurance over the numbers a compilation does not test. Deciding the level before year end beats revisiting closed periods.

Common questions

## Brampton year-end statement questions

**When should inventory be counted?**

On the year-end date, or as close to it as possible with documented adjustments for movements in between. A count weeks later and rolled back by estimate is the most common source of year-end error. [Ask about your case →](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**What does lower of cost and net realizable value mean?**

Inventory is carried at what it cost, unless it can now only be sold for less, after the costs of selling it. Expired, damaged or slow-moving stock is written down to that lower amount.

**Is depreciation the same as CCA?**

No. Depreciation in the statements reflects how the asset is used up; CCA is the tax deduction set by class rates. The two are reconciled on the T2.

**Does a compilation test my inventory count?**

No. A compilation presents the information you provide without testing it. A lender who needs assurance over inventory and receivables may ask for a review engagement instead.

**Do I have to disclose that one customer is most of my sales?**

Where the concentration is significant, yes, it should be visible to a reader. It is a normal feature of many supplier businesses and is better explained than discovered.

**Can an online CPA prepare Ontario corporate statements?**

Yes. The accounting standards and the T2 are the same wherever the preparer sits, and every document is exchanged securely online.

**What do year-end financial statements cost in Brampton?**

For a one-owner Brampton corporation, bookkeeping, payroll and the year-end T2 with statements together usually run $450 to $650 a month all-in. Standalone year-end work is quoted in writing after we review your enquiry. [See the published fees](https://www.everstonecpa.com/pricing).

**Do you work with companies outside Brampton itself?**

Yes. Companies in Bramalea, Caledon, Mississauga and the rest of Peel Region are served the same way, remotely and at the same fixed fees. Toronto companies are covered on the [Toronto accountant](https://www.everstonecpa.com/accountant-toronto) page.
