# Financial statements for *Leduc* manufacturers, contractors and service companies

For a business that carries inventory, equipment and debt, the year-end statements are not just a record. They are what the bank tests its covenants against, what an equipment lender reads before the next unit, and what a bonding company asks for before backing a contract. It is part of [EverStone’s work for Leduc businesses](https://www.everstonecpa.com/accountant-leduc).

EverStone prepares [year-end statements](https://www.everstonecpa.com/financial-statement-preparation-canada) for incorporated corporations remotely.

**Quick answer:** Year-end statements for a Leduc corporation are usually a CSRS 4200 compilation, prepared from the same closed books as the T2 and the Alberta AT1. For manufacturers and contractors, inventory and work-in-progress cut-off decide the profit figure, and the classification of debt decides the ratios a lender tests. For a one-owner trades corporation in Leduc, bookkeeping, payroll and the year-end T2 with statements together usually run $450–$650 a month.

For a one-owner Leduc corporation, monthly bookkeeping, payroll and the year-end financial statements with the T2 usually cost from $450 to $650 a month all-in. The year-end covers the T2 with Schedule 1 and Schedule 50, the AT1, the CCA schedule, the small business deduction, T4 or T5 slips for the owner’s pay, and the instalments for the year ahead.

## Who reads a Leduc company’s statements

For many owner-managed companies the statements are filed with the tax return and rarely looked at again. In Leduc that is less often true. The city and county economy is built around manufacturing, energy services, transportation and warehousing, and food processing — sectors that run on equipment and working capital, which means lenders. A bank operating line, an equipment loan for a new press or a tractor unit, a lease on a building in the business park, a bonding facility for a construction contract: each comes with a request for annual statements, and some with covenants calculated from them.

That changes what the year end is for. It still has to support the T2 and the AT1, but it also has to present the company in a form a credit officer can rely on, consistently from one year to the next.

## Inventory and work in progress decide the profit figure

A fabrication shop, a food processor or a parts distributor carries inventory at the year-end date: raw materials, components, finished goods. A contractor carries work in progress — jobs started and partly billed, or finished and not yet invoiced. Both are assets on the balance sheet and both move profit dollar for dollar. Undercount inventory and the year looks worse than it was; ignore unbilled work and income shifts into the next year.

The practical answers are a count at or near the year-end date with a reasonable costing method, a schedule of open jobs showing costs incurred and amounts billed, and a cut-off review of sales and purchases either side of the year end. None of that is complicated, but it has to be planned before the date arrives, not reconstructed in the spring.

## Classification decisions that move a ratio

Most credit agreements for an established company contain financial covenants: a minimum current ratio, a maximum ratio of debt to earnings, a minimum debt service coverage. Each is calculated from the year-end statements using definitions written into the agreement, and those definitions rarely match the statement captions exactly.

A current ratio depends on where the line between current and long-term is drawn. The portion of a term loan due within twelve months is current. A demand facility is generally current in full regardless of how long it has been outstanding. A [shareholder loan](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/shareholder-loans-canada-taking-money-out-of-corporation) left in the business for years is current unless a written agreement postpones it. None of those calls changes the business by a dollar, and any of them can change whether a covenant is met. The right approach is to make them correctly, early, and with the agreement in hand.

## Equipment, leases and the balance sheet

Equipment-heavy Leduc companies often carry a mix of owned assets, financed purchases and leases. The statements show owned and financed equipment at cost less accumulated amortization, with the related loans as liabilities split between current and long-term. Lease arrangements need to be read to see what they actually are. Separately, the tax return uses capital cost allowance by class, so book amortization and tax CCA differ, and the reconciliation between them sits on Schedule 1. Keeping a fixed asset register that serves both avoids a year-end scramble.

Where equipment sits idle for a sustained period with no realistic redeployment, a write-down may have to be considered. It is an unwelcome entry in a soft year, and it is also the one that keeps the statements honest when a lender is reading them.

## Compilation, review, audit, and what the agreement requires

A CSRS 4200 **compilation engagement** presents information management supplies. It provides no assurance: nothing is verified, no opinion is expressed, and it is neither a review nor an audit. For most owner-managed Leduc companies, a compilation is what the bank, the equipment lender and the CRA need.

Some credit agreements specify more — review-engagement statements within a stated number of days after year end, or audited statements above a certain facility size. The obligation is contractual and applies whether or not it has been enforced before. Read the reporting covenant, not just the financial covenants, before deciding what kind of year end to commission. Where a review or an audit is required, that is a different engagement, and we will say so plainly.

## Alberta corporate tax and the year end

Alberta administers its own corporate income tax, so a Leduc corporation files the AT1 in addition to the federal [T2](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/corporations/corporation-income-tax-return.html). Both are built from the same statements, and preparing the statements and both returns as one exercise avoids reconciling separate versions of the same year. Current Alberta rates and filing requirements are on the [Alberta tax facts](https://www.everstonecpa.com/alberta-tax-facts) page; the [corporate tax hub](https://www.everstonecpa.com/corporate-tax-hub) covers the federal side and the deadlines that follow a fiscal year end.

## Working remotely

EverStone is a CPA firm that works fully online, with no Leduc presence. Engagements are delivered through secure document exchange, video meetings and electronic signature. Count sheets, job schedules and loan statements arrive by upload; questions are handled by email or a short call.

This suits incorporated manufacturers and fabricators, energy-services and industrial contractors, carriers and warehousing companies, food processors and construction firms in Leduc, Nisku and Leduc County. Common questions

## Leduc financial statement questions

**What kind of statements does my bank need?**

Whatever the credit agreement specifies. For most owner-managed companies that is a compilation; some agreements require a review or an audit above a certain facility size or within a set number of days after year end. Read the reporting covenant first. [Ask about your case →](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**Do I need an inventory count at year end?**

If inventory is material, yes, or a count close to the date with movements tracked in between. The count and the costing method decide the closing inventory figure, which moves profit dollar for dollar. Plan it before the year-end date arrives.

**Is a demand loan current or long-term?**

Generally current in full, because the lender can call it at any time, regardless of how long it has been outstanding. That can move a current ratio substantially, so the classification should be settled before the statements are finalized.

**When is revenue recognized on work finished but not yet invoiced?**

In the period the work was performed. Work completed near the year-end date and billed afterwards is accrued as revenue and a receivable at year end; deposits received before work begins remain an obligation until the work is done.

**Does Alberta have its own corporate return?**

Yes. Alberta administers its corporate income tax provincially, so an Alberta corporation files the AT1 alongside the federal T2. Both are prepared from the same year-end statements.

**Is there a Leduc office?**

No. EverStone works online, and Leduc engagements run fully remotely through secure file exchange, video calls and electronic signature.

**What do year-end financial statements cost in Leduc?**

Nothing about a Leduc address changes the fee. Statements on their own are quoted after we review your enquiry. For a one-owner trades corporation, bookkeeping, payroll and the year-end T2 with statements together usually run $450 to $650 a month all-in. [See the published fees](https://www.everstonecpa.com/pricing).

**Do you prepare statements for businesses outside Leduc itself?**

Yes. Year-end statements for businesses in Nisku, Leduc County, Beaumont and Devon are prepared exactly as for Leduc ones, from the same closed books, at the same fee.
