# Payroll services in *Maple Ridge*

If everyone worked the same eight hours, stat holiday pay would be trivial. Maple Ridge payrolls have moving shifts and varying hours. EverStone runs payroll for [Maple Ridge businesses](https://www.everstonecpa.com/accountant-maple-ridge) remotely, at a fee fixed in writing first.

**Quick answer:** For Maple Ridge employers, British Columbia entitles a qualifying employee to statutory holiday pay equal to an average day’s pay, which for variable-hours staff has to be calculated rather than assumed. Vacation pay accrues at 4% of total wages after five calendar days of employment and 6% after five consecutive years. Payroll is included in monthly bookkeeping from $325 a month.

Payroll covers the source deductions for CPP, EI premiums and income tax, the remittances to the CRA, the year-end T4 and T4A slips, and access through My Business Account.

Updated September 2026 .

Two conditions decide it — then the amount has to be calculated.

## Statutory holiday pay when nobody works a standard day

BC pays statutory holidays as **an average day’s pay**, not “a normal shift”. To qualify, an employee must have been employed 30 calendar days before the holiday and worked or earned wages on 15 of the prior 30 days. Maple Ridge retail, cafés and production shifts need a real calculation each time.

Common errors: a flat eight hours overpays part-timers and underpays long-week staff; skipping an eligible five-week hire breaches entitlement; treating a worked holiday as ordinary hours misses the premium. Small each time, they add up across a year. Our guide to [statutory holiday pay for employers](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/statutory-holiday-pay-canada-employers) works the calculation through.

## Vacation pay is a percentage, not a schedule

BC vacation pay accrues at **4% of total wages** after five calendar days, rising to **6%** after five consecutive years. As a percentage, it accrues on a casual four-hour Saturday too. Thinking in “two weeks off” under-accrues part-timers, and the shortfall appears at departure, when unpaid vacation pay is owed.

The clean approach is to accrue it every pay period, show it on the statement, and carry it on the books as what it is: money owed. That also makes the final pay calculation ordinary rather than archaeological.

## The federal and provincial obligations underneath all of it

Income tax, CPP and EI come off every pay and go to the CRA on schedule. [WorkSafeBC](https://www.worksafebc.com/en/insurance/need-coverage) premiums follow classification units. BC [employer health tax](https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/taxes/employer-health-tax) starts above $1,000,000 of annual BC remuneration: 5.85% of the excess between $1,000,000.01 and $1,500,000, then 1.95% of the total above $1,500,000. Many part-timers can reach it. See the [BC tax facts page](https://www.everstonecpa.com/bc-tax-facts).

## Hiring your first employee in Maple Ridge

The first pay run sets a payroll up for years. Open the CRA payroll account, calendar remittance dates, register with WorkSafeBC, and decide stat and vacation pay deliberately. We set it up, then run payroll monthly at a fixed fee. [First-employee checklist](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/hiring-first-employee-canada-checklist).

## Who this is for, and who it is not

This is for Maple Ridge cafés, shops, service crews and small production floors where hours change week to week. You want stat and vacation pay right, the [PD7A](https://www.everstonecpa.com/forms/pd7a) balanced and T4s that match. A large unionized workforce on shift-scheduling software is outside what we run, and we will tell you. Everyone else gets [a fixed price](https://www.everstonecpa.com/fee-estimate) up front.

Common questions

## Statutory holiday pay

Each holiday raises the same three questions for a variable-hours team: who qualifies, what their average day is, and what working it adds. The [BC stat pay calculator](https://www.everstonecpa.com/bc-stat-holiday-pay-calculator) answers the last two once you know the first.

## Variable-hours payroll questions

**How is statutory holiday pay calculated for a part-time employee in BC?**

An average day’s pay rather than a scheduled shift, so it reflects actual earnings rather than a standard eight hours. Two employees on the same rate get different amounts if their hours differ. [Ask about your case →](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**Does a new employee qualify for statutory holiday pay?**

After 30 calendar days of employment, with work or wages on 15 of the 30 days before the holiday. A three-week hire does not qualify; a regular two-month hire does.

**What rate does vacation pay accrue at in British Columbia?**

At least 4% of total wages after five calendar days, and 6% after five consecutive years with one employer, accruing on every hour, including part-time.

**Is unused vacation pay owed when someone leaves?**

Accrued vacation pay is a liability whether or not time off was taken, and is owed on termination. Tracking it each pay period rather than annually keeps the final pay straightforward.

**Do you have an office in Maple Ridge?**

No. EverStone serves Maple Ridge employers remotely through video meetings, secure file exchange and e-signature. Payroll is particularly well suited to that, since the inputs are data and the outputs are documents.

**Can hours come straight from our scheduling software?**

Generally yes. The requirement is that hours arrive in a consistent, reviewable form with the pay period clearly identified — the specific system matters less than the consistency. That same record is what supports the insurable hours reported on a record of employment later.

**What does payroll cost for a Maple Ridge business?**

Maple Ridge pays the same fees. Payroll is included in bookkeeping from $325 a month; payroll-only work is quoted by headcount and frequency after we review your enquiry. [See the published fees](https://www.everstonecpa.com/pricing).

**Do you work with businesses outside Maple Ridge itself?**

Yes. Employers in Pitt Meadows, Albion, Silver Valley and Whonnock are set up the same way as those in Maple Ridge: payroll runs remotely, remittances are scheduled, and the fee does not change with the address.

## Shift work shouldn’t mean guesswork

Statutory holidays, vacation accrual and remittances calculated properly for a variable-hours payroll. Send an enquiry.
