# A free second opinion on *last year’s corporate return*

Updated 8 October 2026

Send us last year’s T2 and financial statements. We’ll read them properly and send back a one-page written summary of what we’d have done differently, or confirmation that it was handled well. Most owners have never had a second set of eyes on a corporate return.

[Request a second opinion](https://www.everstonecpa.com/book-online?utm_source=site&utm_medium=cta&utm_campaign=second_opinion) [Ask a Free Question](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**Quick answer:** A second opinion on a corporate tax return is an independent review of a filed T2 — checking missed deductions, the salary-and-dividend mix, [capital cost allowance](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/capital-cost-allowance-cca-classes-canada), and whether elections were made correctly. Returns can generally be adjusted for prior years. EverStone reviews last year’s T2 at no charge and explains findings plainly.

An independent read of a return that is already filed.

## What a second opinion looks at, GST/HST included

This is a real review, not a sales call with a form attached. We read the return and the statements side by side and check the things that most often get missed on an owner-managed file:

- **Remuneration mix.** Whether the salary and dividend split matched what the year actually earned, and what it did to your RRSP room and CPP.

- **[Small business deduction](https://www.everstonecpa.com/glossary#sbd).** Whether passive investment income ground it down, and whether associated corporations were handled correctly.

- **Shareholder loan balances.** The single most common source of an unwelcome reassessment on a small corporation.

- **Capital cost allowance.** Whether assets landed in the right classes and whether available claims were taken.

- **Home office, vehicle and meals.** Whether they were claimed through the corporation correctly, or claimed personally when they should not have been.

- **GST/HST reconciliation.** Whether what was filed agrees with what the statements say.

- **Statement presentation.** Whether the engagement level matches what your bank or bonding company actually needs.

If something looks wrong, we explain why; if not, you have free confirmation. A GST second opinion is part of the same review: we check whether the GST/HST you filed agrees with what the statements say.

## What you get back

A one-page plain-English summary within five business days of receiving your documents: what we reviewed, anything we would have handled differently, and what, if anything, is worth acting on before your next year end. You keep it either way.

## What it costs

Nothing. No fee and no obligation. It is the most honest way to show how we work: our actual thinking on your actual numbers before you decide anything.

## Who this is for

Incorporated owners in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Manitoba with at least one full year filed. Most useful if the business has changed since your arrangement began, no one else has reviewed your return, or a decision is coming, like a property purchase, a bonus or a new partner.

It is not useful if you have not yet filed a first corporate year. In that case [an enquiry](https://www.everstonecpa.com/book-online) is the better starting point.

## How it works

- **Request it** — [send an enquiry](https://www.everstonecpa.com/book-online?utm_source=site&utm_medium=cta&utm_campaign=second_opinion) or call (604) 832-1743. We confirm what to send.

- **Send two documents** — last year’s T2 and the financial statements that went with it, by secure upload. Nothing else is needed to start.

- **We review**, and come back within five business days with the written summary.

- **You decide** — act on it yourself, take it to your current accountant, or talk to us. All three are fine.

Everything runs remotely, by video call and secure upload. [EverStone CPA](https://www.everstonecpa.com/about) works with incorporated owners across BC and in Alberta, Ontario and Manitoba — nothing here requires you to drive anywhere.

## Questions owners ask

**Do I have to leave my current accountant?**

No, and most people who request a review do not. The summary is yours to use however you like, including taking it back to the person who prepared the return. If it turns out everything was handled well, that is a useful thing to know. [Ask about your case →](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**Is it really free, or is there a catch?**

Really free: no invoice and nothing to sign. It works for us because a meaningful number of owners who see our thinking on their numbers choose to work with us. Those who don’t still get something useful.

**What if you find something wrong?**

We explain what it is, how material it is and the options: an adjustment, the [Voluntary Disclosures Program](https://www.everstonecpa.com/glossary#vdp), or simply handling it differently next year. We say which, without pushing the costlier answer.

**How long does it take?**

Five business days from when we have both documents. If you are working to a deadline, say so when you request it and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it.

**Is my information safe?**

Documents come by secure upload, not email. As CPAs we follow CPA British Columbia confidentiality standards, client or not. See our [privacy policy](https://www.everstonecpa.com/privacy) on storage and retention.

**Do you do this for personal returns too?**

This particular review is built around a corporate file, because that is where the money usually is for an incorporated owner. If your question is really about your personal return, send [an enquiry](https://www.everstonecpa.com/book-online) and say so. We will point you the right way.
