# The Year-End Playbook: year-end handled in five short emails

**Quick answer:** Leave an email address and the Year-End Playbook arrives as five short lessons over about two weeks — gathering the documents, the moves worth reviewing *before* your year-end closes, deciding how to pay yourself, cleaning up shareholder loans and vehicle logs, and the deadlines that follow. Each email is a few paragraphs and links the full guide on this site. Free, unsubscribe anytime, and everything in it also lives ungated in the [year-end hub](https://www.everstonecpa.com/year-end-hub) if you prefer to read at your own pace.

If you would rather ask than read, that works too. [An email enquiry](https://www.everstonecpa.com/book-online) covers the same ground.

## What the five emails cover

- **Get the paper together.** The [year-end document checklist](https://www.everstonecpa.com/year-end-document-checklist), and why one complete pass beats four partial ones.

- **The moves that only work before year-end.** The [15 year-end tax moves](https://www.everstonecpa.com/downloads/everstone-15-year-end-tax-moves.pdf) (PDF), which ones close forever the day your fiscal year does.

- **Decide how you pay yourself.** [Bonus or dividend at year-end](https://www.everstonecpa.com/blog/bonus-vs-dividend-year-end-canada), with the [salary-vs-dividends calculator](https://www.everstonecpa.com/salary-vs-dividends-calculator) to run your own numbers.

- **The cleanup nobody enjoys.** The [shareholder loan tracker](https://www.everstonecpa.com/shareholder-loan-tracker) and the [vehicle log](https://www.everstonecpa.com/mileage-and-vehicle-log) — the two records that cause the most year-end pain when they don’t exist.

- **The clocks that start ticking at year-end.** When the [T2](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/corporations/corporation-income-tax-return.html) and the balance owing are due, on the [CRA deadlines page](https://www.everstonecpa.com/cra-tax-deadlines), and how to make the dates [someone else’s job to watch](https://www.everstonecpa.com/deadline-reminders).

Lesson 1 arrives immediately and automatically; the remaining four are sent by the firm over the following two weeks. Your address is used for this course and nothing else — the [privacy policy](https://www.everstonecpa.com/privacy) applies. Unsubscribe by replying “stop” to any lesson.

## Why five emails and not one long page

Because year-end is not one task. It is five, and they happen in order. Documents come before decisions; the pay-yourself decision comes before the books close; the cleanup has to be done before the T2 can be honest about it. One long page gets bookmarked for later. Five emails, arriving in the order the work actually happens, get done. The material itself stays free and ungated either way — the course is a pace, not a paywall.

## Who it’s for

Incorporated owner-managers and contractors handling their own year-end, or wanting to arrive at their accountant’s desk with everything ready. If the firm already handles your year-end, you don’t need the course. This is [what the engagement covers](https://www.everstonecpa.com/services), tracked for you.

The playbook ends where the statements begin, and [year-end statements prepared from the closed file](https://www.everstonecpa.com/financial-statements-abbotsford) picks it up there.

## Common questions about year-End Playbook

**Is the course really free, and what is the catch?**

Free, and the catch is the same transparent one as our other free tools: some fraction of people who work through year-end this way decide they would rather have a CPA do it, and that is the paid engagement. The course itself sells nothing and the material stays free. [Ask about your case →](https://www.everstonecpa.com/quick-question)

**When should I start it?**

One to two months before your fiscal year-end is ideal, because lesson 2 covers moves that stop being available the day the year closes. Starting after year-end still works — lessons 1, 4 and 5 are about filing well, whatever the date.

**Can I read it all without signing up?**

Yes. Every guide, checklist and calculator the course links is free on this site right now — start at the year-end hub. The email version exists for people who want the sequence and the pacing, not as a gate.

**How do I stop the emails?**

Reply “stop” to any lesson and the rest are not sent. No link-hunting, no retention flow.
