Who we help here: oilfield service companies, welding and fabrication shops, electrical and mechanical trades, hauling and hot-shot operators, and farm suppliers. Owners in Vermilion, Kitscoty and the County of Vermilion River are served the same way.
Quick answer: A business on the Alberta side of Lloydminster charges 5% GST and no provincial sales tax, pays no provincial payroll tax, and once incorporated files the federal T2 and the Alberta AT1. EverStone prepares all of it online at a fixed fee quoted in writing first. Published fees start at $125 for a personal return and $325 a month for bookkeeping.

What Alberta adds for a Lloydminster business
A light provincial layer, with one return owners often miss.
No provincial sales tax
Alberta charges no PST at all, so sales within the province carry only the 5% federal GST. One registration, one return.
Corporate rates
Active business income eligible for the small business deduction is taxed at 11% combined (9% federal plus 2% Alberta) on a $500,000 limit. Above it the combined rate is 23%, built on Alberta’s 8% general rate. See the Alberta tax facts page.
Two corporate returns
Alberta collects its own corporate income tax. A corporation files the AT1 with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration as well as the T2 with the CRA.
The Alberta side of a border city
Lloydminster is one city in two provinces. EverStone works with businesses on the Alberta side and with Alberta corporations. We do not take on Saskatchewan-based businesses.
The border still shows up in Alberta files through customers and trucks that cross it. GST stays at 5% on an Alberta sale. Selling into a province with HST or its own PST can change that, because the rate follows the place of supply rather than your address. Our place of supply guide sets out the tests.
Mention any Saskatchewan yard, staff or contracts in your first email, and we will say plainly whether the file fits.

Oil and gas service companies: what the books need
Oilfield service files turn on equipment, crews and customers who pay slowly. Pickers, pressure trucks, steamers and service rigs belong in the right capital cost allowance class, and timing a purchase around year-end changes the deduction.
Field tickets and master service agreements bring long payment terms. The books need receivables aged by customer, work in progress at year-end, and costs by job or unit. That shows which work pays.
Get My Fixed QuoteOilfield files we see
Fluid hauling, well servicing, rentals, fabrication and safety companies, most of them owner-run.
Trades and trucking on the Yellowhead
Local trades work for the oilpatch, farms and homeowners alike. Where construction is the main activity, subcontractor payments are reported on T5018 slips. WCB-Alberta, holdbacks and vans follow. Our Alberta contractor page covers the detail.
Haulers need fuel-tax records, distance by jurisdiction and trade-ins recorded properly. Long-haul drivers may claim meals; our per diem guide explains how. Owner-operators: see our trucking page.
Payroll for crews and drivers
Alberta has no provincial payroll tax, so an Alberta employer deals with federal source deductions plus WCB-Alberta reporting. Rotations, overtime and Alberta general holiday pay need correct setup from the first pay run.
Crews that grow in winter and shrink at spring break-up mean frequent hires and records of employment. We run pay, remit on the CRA schedule, issue ROEs and file T4s by the end of February, inside monthly bookkeeping.
Year-end, the AT1 and paying yourself
The T2 is due within six months of year-end, and the balance owing generally three months after it for a corporation claiming the small business deduction. Instalments run to Alberta as well as to the CRA.
We plan before year-end, not after. The salary and dividend mix, any bonus to accrue, and equipment purchases are settled while they can still help. The salary vs dividends calculator shows the trade-off.
