Financial statements for Sherwood Park corporations
For a Sherwood Park contractor, the year-end statements are read by more people than the CRA: the bank that holds the equipment loan, the bonding company, and the plant operator whose vendor check asks for them. EverStone prepares year-end statements for incorporated businesses in Strathcona County remotely, from the same file as the T2 and AT1.
Quick answer: Year-end statements for an owner-managed Sherwood Park corporation are usually a CSRS 4200 compilation. They support the T2 and the Alberta AT1, and they are also read by lenders and counterparties, so classification and cut-off matter as much as the tax. For a one-owner trades corporation, bookkeeping, payroll and the year-end T2 with statements together usually run $450–$650 a month.
The year-end file covers the balance sheet and income statement, the compilation engagement report, the T2 with Schedule 1, Schedule 50 and the GIFI schedules, the AT1, the CCA schedule, T4 or T5 slips for the owner’s pay and the instalments for the year ahead.
Who asks for the statements, and why
Growth for a Sherwood Park industrial service company usually depends on someone else’s comfort. A lender extending an equipment facility wants to see the balance sheet. A bonding company backing a contract wants working capital and equity. A refinery or petrochemical operator running a vendor prequalification may ask for recent statements before it adds you to an approved list. Local businesses have their own readers: a landlord reviewing a lease, a franchisor, or a buyer looking at the business.
All of them are reading the same document, and each reads it for a different reason. The statements need to be accurate and consistent first, and presented in the form the reader expects second.
Compilation, review or audit
For most owner-managed corporations the answer is a compilation engagement under CSRS 4200. It produces statements with a compilation engagement report and a note describing the basis of accounting. It provides no assurance — nothing is verified, no opinion is expressed — and the report says so plainly.
That is usually enough for a lender who wants consistent, professionally prepared numbers. Some credit agreements and larger counterparties specifically require review-engagement or audited statements, often within a set number of days after year end. That obligation is contractual and applies whether or not it has been enforced before. Read the reporting clause before deciding what to commission, and if a review or audit is required we will tell you directly rather than let you send something that will not satisfy it. See year-end financial statements.
Classification decisions that move a ratio
A current ratio depends on where the line between current and long-term is drawn. The portion of a term loan due within twelve months is current. A demand facility is generally current in full, however long it has actually been outstanding. A shareholder loan left in the company for years is current unless there is a written agreement postponing it.
None of these choices changes the business by a dollar, and any of them can change whether a covenant is met or a bonding limit holds. The answer is not to choose the convenient treatment. It is to make the calls correctly and early, and to know where the ratio sits before the statements are final rather than after they are sent.
Shutdown work and year-end cut-off
Plant maintenance and turnaround work is often concentrated in short, intense periods. Revenue and the costs that go with it have to land in the period the work was done, not the period the invoice was approved, which for large operators can lag the work by weeks. Work completed before year end and billed after it is accrued. Mobilization or advance payments received before work starts remain obligations until the work is done.
Equipment adds its own year-end questions. Units sitting idle still carry book value and depreciation. Where an asset is no longer expected to earn what its carrying value implies, a write-down has to be considered rather than deferred. An honest balance sheet in a slow year protects credibility when you next need a lender’s support.
One set of numbers for statements and both returns
Alberta administers its own corporate income tax, so a Sherwood Park corporation files a provincial AT1 alongside the federal T2. Both are built from the same statements. Preparing the statements and both returns as one exercise avoids reconciling different versions of the same year. CCA on the tax return and depreciation in the statements will differ, and that difference should be tracked, not rediscovered each year. The rates are on the Alberta tax facts page, and the corporate tax hub covers federal deadlines.
What it costs
Statements on their own are quoted after we review your enquiry. For a one-owner trades corporation, monthly bookkeeping, payroll and the year-end T2 with financial statements together usually run $450 to $650 a month all-in. The fee is fixed in writing before work begins. See the published fees.

Who this is for, and who it is not
This fits a Sherwood Park corporation whose statements are read by someone besides the owner — a lender, a bonding company, a plant operator or a buyer — and wants them prepared by the same CPA who files the returns. It does not fit a company whose agreements require an audit: that is a different engagement, and we will say so at the start.
What happens when you get in touch
Year-end work for a Sherwood Park corporation starts in three steps, all remote, with the fee fixed at the first.
- An email enquiry first. Tell us what the business does, what is filed and what is overdue. A fixed fee comes back in writing, with no obligation to take it.
- Access, in the first week. We are authorized with the CRA through Represent a Client, so notices, balances and slips are looked up rather than requested from you. If you are switching firms, your file is requested the same week.
- Current, then ahead. Books set up or brought current, anything overdue scheduled oldest year first, and the next twelve months of federal and Alberta deadlines set before they arrive.
Send an enquiry, or ask one question first — both go to a CPA, not a queue.
