Accountant for Camrose farms, stores and manufacturers
EverStone CPA works with Camrose owners entirely online: corporate tax, the Alberta AT1, bookkeeping, payroll and GST from one Chartered Professional Accountant, at a fixed fee agreed before work starts. Owners in Camrose County, Bashaw, Tofield and Wetaskiwin are served the same way.
Who we help here: grain, canola and cattle operations, farm equipment and input dealers, downtown and highway retailers, fabrication and manufacturing shops, and the trades and service firms that support them.
Quick answer: A Camrose business charges 5% GST and no provincial sales tax, pays no provincial payroll tax, and once incorporated files the federal T2 and the Alberta AT1. EverStone prepares all of it online at a fixed fee quoted in writing first. Published fees start at $125 for a personal return and $325 a month for bookkeeping.

What Alberta adds for a Camrose business
A light provincial layer, with one return owners often miss.
No provincial sales tax
Alberta charges no PST at all, so a Camrose store or shop selling within the province deals only with the 5% federal GST. One registration, one return.
Corporate rates
Active business income eligible for the small business deduction is taxed at 11% combined (9% federal plus 2% Alberta) on a $500,000 limit. Above it the combined rate is 23%, built on Alberta’s 8% general rate. See the Alberta tax facts page.
Two corporate returns
Alberta collects its own corporate income tax. A corporation files the AT1 with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration as well as the T2 with the CRA.

Farms and agribusiness: what the books need
Farm income is uneven by nature. Grain may sit in the bin past year-end, cattle sell when prices suit, and equipment is bought when a good year allows. Farmers can generally report on the cash method, which gives some control over the timing of income.
Most sales of grain, canola and livestock are zero-rated for GST, so a registered farm often claims refunds of the GST it paid on inputs. Equipment belongs in the right CCA class. Passing land and the operation to the next generation takes planning; see our farm rollover guide.

Retail: inventory, margins and the till
Camrose stores serve the city and the towns around it, so sales swing with harvest, holidays and the weather. The books should show margin by category, not just total sales. Point-of-sale totals should match deposits and card fees monthly.
Inventory is usually the biggest number on a retailer’s balance sheet. A year-end count, valued properly, decides the cost of goods sold and the profit. Our inventory count guide covers the method. See also our e-commerce page and Edmonton retail page.
Manufacturing and fabrication
Camrose shops build equipment, fabricate steel and process farm products. Their files carry raw materials, work in progress and finished goods, and each needs a value at year-end. Job costing shows which orders make money once labour and overhead are counted.
Machinery is expensive, and the timing of a purchase changes the deduction. Shops that also do installation may have T5018 reporting for subcontractors.
Payroll for stores, shops and farms
Alberta has no provincial payroll tax, so an Alberta employer deals with federal source deductions plus WCB-Alberta reporting. Part-time retail staff, shop overtime and Alberta general holiday pay all need setting up correctly from the first pay run.
Harvest help and holiday staff mean seasonal hires and records of employment. We run pay, remit on the CRA schedule, issue ROEs and file T4s by the end of February, inside monthly bookkeeping.
Year-end, the AT1 and paying yourself
The T2 is due within six months of year-end, and the balance owing generally three months after it for a corporation claiming the small business deduction. Instalments run to Alberta as well as to the CRA.
We plan before year-end, not after. The salary and dividend mix, any bonus to accrue, and equipment purchases are settled while they can still help. The salary vs dividends calculator shows the trade-off.
