A BC CPA for West Vancouver corporations
West Vancouver is largely residential, so much of its business runs from home offices, clinics and small storefronts in Ambleside and Dundarave. Many owners work downtown or elsewhere on the North Shore, but keep their corporation, family and investments here.
You work with one Chartered Professional Accountant who knows your numbers year-round. Questions come by email, meetings happen by video when they help, documents arrive through a secure upload link, and returns are signed electronically.

Owner pay: salary, dividends or a mix
Each year an incorporated owner decides how to take money out. Salary is deductible to the corporation, creates RRSP room and requires CPP contributions. Dividends come from after-tax profit, need no payroll account and carry no CPP.
The right mix depends on your other income, your family and what you plan to save. We model it before year-end. The salary vs dividends calculator shows the trade-off, and CPP for incorporated owners covers the pension side.
Money taken without a plan lands in the shareholder loan account, and left too long it becomes taxable income.
Holding companies and money left in the corporation
Many West Vancouver owners keep a second corporation above the operating one. It receives dividends, holds investments and keeps surplus cash away from business risk, but adds a second T2 each year.
Enough investment income can shrink the small business deduction for the whole group. We track that each year, with the passive income rules and associated corporations in view.
A holding company is not always worth the extra filings; when a holding company makes sense sets out the tests.
Incorporated professionals and consultants
Doctors, dentists, lawyers and other regulated professionals usually incorporate through a professional corporation. Their regulator decides who may hold shares, which affects how income can reach family members. See accounting for incorporated professionals.
A consultant who works for one client, under that client’s direction, can be treated as a personal services business. That loses the small business deduction and most expenses. We review the contracts first. Consultants on the North Shore and IT consultants in BC have their own pages.
What BC adds for a West Vancouver corporation
Provincial rules sit on top of the federal ones, and each has its own registration and calendar.
Two sales taxes
BC charges 5% GST and 7% PST as separate taxes with separate returns. GST registration becomes mandatory once taxable sales pass $30,000 in four consecutive calendar quarters. The BC PST guide covers registration.
Corporate rates
BC taxes active business income under the small business deduction at 2% and other income at 12%, on a $500,000 limit shared by associated corporations. The figures are on the BC tax facts page.
Payroll layers
WorkSafeBC registration and premiums for every employer, and the employer health tax once BC remuneration passes $1,000,000. BC vacation pay starts at 4% and rises to 6% after five years.
