Airdrie accountant for owner-run trades, transport and local businesses
EverStone CPA works with incorporated and self-employed Airdrie owners entirely online — corporate tax, the Alberta AT1, bookkeeping, payroll and GST from one Chartered Professional Accountant, at a fixed fee agreed before any work starts. Businesses in Crossfield, Balzac, Carstairs, Irricana and the rest of Rocky View County are served the same way.
Who we help here: contractors and trades companies, carriers and owner-operators, small manufacturers and suppliers, health and professional practices, and the home-based consultancies that a commuter city produces in large numbers.
Quick answer: An Airdrie business charges 5% GST and no provincial sales tax, pays no provincial payroll tax, and — once incorporated — files two corporate returns: the federal T2 and the Alberta AT1. EverStone prepares all of it for Airdrie owners fully online, at a fixed fee quoted in writing first. Published fees start at $100 for a personal return and $300 a month for bookkeeping; corporate returns are quoted after we review your enquiry.

One CPA for the whole file, without the drive
Airdrie sits just north of Calgary along Alberta’s main transportation corridor, and the City’s own labour market page notes that most residents commute south. Plenty of owners therefore end up using an accountant on the far side of a commute, seeing them once a year in tax season. We do it differently: the work runs by email, secure upload and short video calls, so the accountant is as close as your inbox.
Every Airdrie client works with one Chartered Professional Accountant who knows the file continuously, not a different preparer each spring. Email is the fastest way to reach us, and the fee is fixed and agreed in writing before any work starts.

Fewer taxes to file, one return most owners miss
The provincial picture is lighter than anywhere else in Canada, with one notable exception.
No provincial sales tax
Alberta charges no PST at all, so an Airdrie business selling within the province deals only with the 5% federal GST. One registration, one return, and no provincial tax buried in the cost of materials or equipment.
The lowest general corporate rate
Active business income eligible for the small business deduction is taxed at 11% combined (9% federal plus 2% Alberta) on a $500,000 limit. Above it the combined rate is 23%, built on Alberta’s 8% general rate, the lowest in the country.
But two corporate returns
Alberta collects its own corporate income tax. An Airdrie corporation files the AT1 with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration as well as the T2 with the CRA, and owners who incorporated elsewhere are the ones who most often miss it.

What Airdrie businesses actually look like
The City of Airdrie lists construction, health care and social assistance, transportation and warehousing, and professional, scientific and technical services among the strengths of its workforce, and the city hosts manufacturers ranging from oil and gas field equipment to food production. Industrial land sits close to road, rail and air connections, with Calgary International Airport a short drive away.
That mix produces recognisable files. Trades companies need T5018 slips, holdbacks and WCB-Alberta handled properly. Carriers need fuel-tax records and tractor CCA. Clinics and consultancies need clean owner-pay planning, and the businesses run from a spare room need the home-office and vehicle records that make their deductions stand up.

The home-based business that grew up without its records
A commuter city produces a lot of businesses that start at a kitchen table: a consultant who left a Calgary employer, a renovator working out of a garage, an e-commerce seller with stock in the basement. They begin as a T2125 on the owner’s personal return, and the records are whatever the bank statement shows. That works until the business is large enough to register for GST, hire someone or incorporate, and then the missing pieces arrive all at once.
The City of Airdrie requires a business licence for businesses carried on in the city, renewed each December through a myAIRDRIE account. A home business limited to a desk and a computer needs only the licence. One that stores goods, receives deliveries, has clients or employees at the house, or makes products there will usually need a home business development permit as well. We do not file municipal paperwork, but we do ask about it, because the answer usually tells us how much of the home is genuinely used for the business — which is exactly what a home-office claim rests on.
The fix is not complicated. Separate bank and card accounts, a vehicle log kept the same week, receipts captured when they are paid, and a clear decision about when to incorporate based on what the business earns beyond what the family spends. Done early, the move from T2125 to a corporation filing the T2 and AT1 is a planned step rather than a scramble. Our when incorporating starts to pay page sets out the test.

Airdrie industries we work with most
Construction and the trades are the largest group. Residential growth keeps framers, electricians, plumbers, landscapers and finishing trades busy across the city and into Rocky View County, and each of them carries the same handful of obligations: T5018 reporting where construction is the main activity, WCB-Alberta coverage, holdbacks, and equipment and vehicles that belong in the right capital cost allowance class.
Transportation and warehousing come next. Airdrie’s position on the main corridor and its closeness to the airport put carriers, couriers and warehouse operators here, and their files turn on fuel-tax records, distance by jurisdiction, and the trade-in timing of tractors and trailers. Manufacturers and suppliers bring inventory, job costing and larger equipment purchases. Health and professional practices bring the remuneration question in its sharpest form, and the many one-person consultancies bring a quieter risk: a corporation with a single client that looks like an employer can be treated as a personal services business and lose the small business deduction.
Geography shapes the file even though the work is remote. Businesses in the Balzac commercial area or on acreages in Rocky View County often sell into Calgary and beyond; Crossfield, Carstairs and Irricana bring smaller trades, agricultural service and family businesses. None of that changes how we file. It changes what the return has to account for.
What an Airdrie client’s year looks like
Books stay current monthly, GST is filed on the period the CRA assigned, and payroll remittances go out on schedule. Planning happens before the fiscal year end, not after: the salary and dividend mix, any bonus to be accrued, equipment purchases and their CCA, and the instalments for the coming year — which run to Alberta as well as to the CRA. The balance owing is generally due three months after year end for a Canadian-controlled private corporation claiming the small business deduction, and the T2 within six months. With no provincial sales tax to file, the calendar is genuinely lighter than a BC or Ontario equivalent, but the AT1 has to be on it.
We work with owner-managed businesses across Alberta. See accounting in Alberta for the provincial picture, or our Calgary page if your business is based across the city line.

Remote accounting for Airdrie
The firm operates fully virtually and serves Airdrie remotely. There is no Airdrie office and no staff based there. Everything runs by email, video call and secure document exchange, so nothing about the engagement depends on being nearby. The person who answers your question in March is the one who prepared the return the year before.
Current Alberta rates and thresholds live on the Alberta tax facts page, each with its source, kept in one place rather than repeated across the site where it would go stale.
