Mission Accounting Firm for Small Businesses & Owner-Operators
EverStone CPA looks after Mission’s trades, mills and home-based businesses — the EverStone team provides corporate tax, bookkeeping and advice at fixed fees settled up front.
Quick answer: Mission’s forestry, trades and small-manufacturing base makes equipment CCA one of the biggest levers on your tax bill, while a growing wave of home-based businesses means GST/PST on mixed supplies comes up often. EverStone handles both — entirely online, at fixed fees quoted up front.
A Mission accounting firm for owner-operators
Mission businesses tend to be equipment-heavy and owner-run — forestry and excavation contractors, fabricators, and a fast-growing crowd of home-based companies. Getting CCA classes and GST treatment right is where we usually add value first.
An accountant you can actually reach: fees fixed and agreed in writing after a free consultation, and questions answered when asked, not at the next appointment.

Built for how Mission businesses actually earn money
Mission’s economy still carries a strong forestry and forestry-adjacent trades footprint, alongside small manufacturing and a fast-growing base of home-based businesses as more people relocate to Mission and work remotely. For forestry contractors, equipment operators and small manufacturers, capital cost allowance on heavy equipment, vehicles and machinery is usually the single biggest lever on your corporate tax bill each year, and getting the CCA class, half-year rule and any accelerated investment incentive claims right can materially change what you owe.
The other issue we see often in Mission is GST/HST and BC PST on mixed supplies — businesses that sell a combination of taxable goods, exempt services and zero-rated items, or that operate across both a retail and a wholesale/contracting side. Charging, claiming input tax credits, and remitting correctly gets complicated fast when your revenue streams are taxed differently, and it’s an area CRA reviews closely.
Whether you’re running equipment in the bush, manufacturing on Cedar Street, or building a home-based service business in Silverdale or Hatzic, we handle the CCA schedules and sales-tax mechanics entirely online, at fixed fees quoted up front.

Switching accountants in Mission
Mission has seen more than its share of accounting practices change hands — firms merging, principals retiring, files quietly transferring to a successor the client never chose. If that has happened to you, the position is better than it feels. Your prior-year returns and working papers do not disappear; the successor firm is generally required to retain and hand over your records. And your CRA representative authorization does not transfer automatically, which means the decision about who has access going forward is still yours to make.
If you are choosing again, what to ask an accountant in Mission is the short version. There is a full walk-through in what happens when your accounting firm merges or retires. The mechanics of moving are set out on our what changing accountants involves page. The short version: it takes about an hour of your time, spread over a couple of weeks. The new firm does the rest — requesting files, obtaining CRA authorization, handling the takeover. You do not lose your tax history, because assessed returns live with the CRA rather than with any firm.
Forestry, equipment and the trades base
Mission’s economy has long carried a forestry and resource character. The businesses around it are equipment-heavy: logging and site contractors, hauling, milling and the trades that supply them. That puts capital cost allowance at the centre of the annual return, which class a machine belongs in, how the half-year rule applies in the year of purchase, and what recapture looks like when a unit is sold.
Buying a machine? Excavators and trucks in Mission: CCA class and timing. Our guide to equipment CCA classes for BC trades covers the treatment. Machinery is usually the largest number on the balance sheet for these businesses, and the CCA class, the financing choice and the eventual trade-in each move the tax outcome. See equipment accounting in Mission for how those files are set up.
A growing commuter base and one-person corporations
Alongside the resource economy, Mission has absorbed steady residential growth, and with it a rising number of incorporated professionals and tradespeople who live here and work west. That produces the familiar one-person-corporation questions: how to take money out, whether a vehicle belongs in the company, how the home office is handled once you incorporate, and whether a single-client contract creates personal services business exposure. Many of them run from home rather than a unit. See home business accounting in Mission.

Silverdale, Cedar Valley and a changing business base
Mission has been shifting for a decade. The forestry and equipment base that defined it is still there, but residential growth through Silverdale and Cedar Valley has layered a commuter economy on top — consultants, trades serving new households, and a notable number of businesses run from home rather than from a unit.
Those two economies need different things from an accountant. An equipment-heavy operator’s biggest lever is the capital asset schedule; a home-based consultant’s is the home office basis and the incorporation timing. We work with both, which is why there are separate pages for equipment-heavy businesses and home-based businesses in Mission.
Why Mission owners tend to arrive mid-problem
A pattern worth naming: most Mission businesses that come to us are not shopping for a better price. They arrive because something specific has happened, a CRA letter, a firm that merged and stopped answering, books that fell behind through a busy season, or a purchase decision they could not get advice on in time.
All four are fixable, and all four are cheaper to fix early. A review letter answered properly within its window is a routine matter; the same letter ignored becomes an assessment. Books three months behind take an afternoon; two years behind takes a reconstruction. We take files mid-year as a matter of course, and there is no penalty in the fee for arriving mid-problem.

Remote accounting from Abbotsford
EverStone works with Mission businesses from one location: 32615 South Fraser Way in Abbotsford. There is no premises in Mission, and nobody on the ground there. Calls happen by video or phone and paperwork moves by secure email and e-signature. The person who answers your question in March is the one who prepared the return in June, which is the part a larger office structure tends to lose.
What Mission businesses actually look like
Mission has 1,191 business locations with employees. The largest single sector is construction at 222 of them — roughly 19 in every 100 — followed by health care and social help at 112. That mix is why so much of the work here involves holdbacks, subcontractor reporting and equipment costs.
These are locations with employees; businesses with no payroll are counted in a separate table and are not included. The full business-count data for the Fraser Valley has the full breakdown for every municipality, with sources. To see where your own numbers sit, use the free benchmarking tool.

Changing accountants mid-stream — how it actually goes
Most owners assume switching is disruptive, expensive, or something you can only do right after a year-end. None of that is true, and the belief costs people a year of staying somewhere that is not working.
- You can move at any point in the year. We take new corporations year-round. If your year-end has already passed and nothing has been filed, that is an ordinary starting position, not a problem.
- We request the files. You send one short email to your former accountant; professional practice is to hand over the working papers, and we deal with the rest. You are not chasing anyone.
- The quote comes before the work. Scope and fee in writing, agreed up front, including any catch-up, priced once as its own engagement.
If you are not sure whether leaving is warranted, that is a different question and worth answering first: have last year’s return reviewed independently before you decide anything. Plenty of those reviews end with “this was handled correctly”. The full process is on the switching guide.
Mission business licences for a workforce that travels
Mission is a District rather than a City, and it issues its own business licence to businesses located within it. What makes Mission distinctive from a licensing point of view is how much of its work happens elsewhere: a large proportion of Mission’s trades businesses take contracts across the river in Abbotsford or west toward Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
That pattern is exactly what the Fraser Valley inter-municipal licence was designed for. Mission is one of the eleven participating municipalities, so a Mission-based contractor holds one base licence here plus a single $250 inter-municipal licence, applied for through Mission, and can work across the whole participating group. Businesses that operate only within Mission need only the base licence, and paying for coverage you do not use is its own quiet cost.
Mission’s communities, and a workforce that crosses the river
Hatzic, Silverdale, Cedar Valley, Stave Falls and Ferndale spread Mission’s population over a wide area, and its business base spreads with it, a lot of Mission’s trades and forestry-adjacent businesses are run from home and worked elsewhere. That pattern is why so many Mission owners end up dealing with more than one municipality’s licensing, and why the corporate year-end conversation here so often turns on vehicle expenses, home-office claims and equipment purchases rather than premises.
For companies here in the valley, the fractional arrangement has a local shape worth reading about separately. See what a fractional CFO does for a valley company.
Businesses that also want CFO support in Mission can have both quoted together.
If the immediate job is filing — this year’s or several years that never got done — the Mission tax preparation page covers the process, including multi-year catch-ups.
