Fractional CFO support for Mississauga companies
A growing Mississauga manufacturer or distributor usually has three money problems at once: it does not know which products or customers actually make money, its cash is tied up in stock and receivables, and its bank wants reporting nobody has time to produce. This page covers part-time CFO work on those; the general offering is on the fractional CFO page. It is part of EverStone’s work for Mississauga businesses.
Quick answer: A fractional CFO is part-time senior financial leadership. For a Mississauga company the work centres on margin by product line and customer, working capital tied up in inventory and receivables, a forward cash forecast, and reporting a lender will accept. Fractional CFO work for a Mississauga business starts at $2,500 a month.
Filings that sit underneath the work: the T2, Schedule 1, Schedule 50, CCA, the small business deduction, T4 or T5 slips and instalments.
Fractional CFO services for Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and the rest of Peel run remotely by the month, and the fractional controller half, margin by product and the close, is usually the first thing bought.
Margin by product line and by customer
The City of Mississauga lists advanced manufacturing, smart logistics, life sciences and food and beverage among the sectors that define its economy, and many of the small and midsized companies around those sectors sell a wide range of products to a small number of customers. Total gross margin on the income statement hides almost everything that matters. One product line may carry the business while another loses money once freight, rework and the salesperson’s time are counted. One large customer may demand pricing, terms and delivery windows that make it the least profitable account on the books.
The first piece of CFO work is usually to build margin by product line and by customer from the data you already have — invoices, purchase costs, freight and labour — and refresh it monthly. It changes the conversations about price increases, minimum orders and which work to pursue.
Working capital: where the cash actually is
A profitable distributor can still run short of cash, because profit is not cash. Money goes out to suppliers, carriers and customs brokers well before customers pay, and the gap is held in inventory and receivables. Growth makes it worse: every extra dollar of sales needs more stock on the shelf and more invoices waiting to be paid.
We measure the cycle in days — how long stock sits, how long customers take to pay, how long you take to pay suppliers — and then look at what can move. Slow-moving stock can be cleared or stop being reordered; payment terms can be tightened for new customers; supplier terms can be renegotiated or matched to customer cycles. Each day removed from the cycle frees cash without borrowing.
A cash forecast you can steer by
Most owner-managed companies look at cash in the bank account, which tells you about last week. A rolling thirteen-week cash forecast looks forward: receipts expected from customers, payroll and source deductions on their dates, HST remittances or refunds, loan payments, corporate tax instalments and the large supplier payments that are coming. It shows the tight week a month before it arrives, while there is still time to chase a receivable, delay a purchase or draw on the line of credit in an orderly way. Cash flow management describes the approach.
Reporting a lender will accept
Mississauga companies that finance inventory, receivables and equipment through a bank usually have reporting obligations: monthly or quarterly borrowing-base certificates, annual statements, and covenant tests such as a debt-service ratio or minimum working capital. Late or inconsistent reporting damages the relationship even when the business is healthy. We produce the reporting on a timetable, check covenants before the figures go to the bank, and raise early if a test is going to be tight. The same discipline helps when a company approaches a new lender. Lender readiness covers what a bank typically asks for.
Equipment, capacity and the buy-or-lease question
Capacity in a plant or warehouse is machines, space and people. A new machining centre, a second shift or another bay of racking each changes cost structure for years. The decision deserves more than a quote and a gut feeling: a simple model of the volume needed to cover the added fixed cost, the cash effect of buying against leasing, and the tax effect through capital cost allowance and timing against the fiscal year-end. Hiring is the same question in a different form: what must a new person produce to cover their fully loaded cost, including CPP, EI, vacation pay, WSIB and, once payroll grows, Ontario employer health tax?
Owner pay and the corporate structure
A CFO view also covers what the owner takes out. Salary versus dividends, what to leave in the company under the small business deduction, whether a holding company is worth having, and how a family member’s role should be paid all interact with the cash plan. Ontario taxes small-business income at 2.2% provincially for days after 30 June 2026 on a $500,000 business limit, so how profit is kept, paid out or invested inside the company is a planning decision rather than a year-end afterthought. Leave money in the company or pay it out walks through the trade-offs.
When a company does not need this
If the books are months behind, or inventory is not tracked in any system, none of the above can be calculated, so fix that first; our Mississauga bookkeeping service is the starting point. A business of a few people with the owner across every order and invoice is also unlikely to learn much from formal oversight.
It starts to pay when there is a specific discomfort. Typical ones are growth that has not improved profit, a bank asking for more than you can produce, cash that is always tight despite good sales, a large customer whose terms have become a problem, or partners who disagree about what the numbers mean. Absent one of those, timely books and a clean year-end deliver more. See what a fractional CFO does.
How the engagement works
Mississauga engagements run remotely. Data comes from your accounting system, inventory system and bank feeds; a monthly pack and a short video review replace the board-room meeting; and questions between meetings are answered by email. There is a fixed monthly fee agreed in writing, and the scope can grow or shrink as the business changes.
This suits small and midsized manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers, logistics and freight operators, contractors and multi-location restaurant groups. Related pages: year-end statements in Mississauga and fractional CFO work in Toronto.

Who this is for, and who it is not
This fits a Mississauga company whose reporting has to satisfy somebody outside it — a lender, a board, a buyer — or whose owner needs a clearer view of margin and cash than the year-end gives. It does not fit a business that has not yet closed a month on time. Monthly close comes before forecasting, because a forecast is only as good as the month it starts from. A fee estimate costs nothing and takes a few minutes.
What happens when you get in touch
The first conversation is by email or video.
- A short conversation, no charge. Tell us about the company, what the bank asks for and what keeps you up at night. A fixed fee comes back in writing, and you are free to decline it.
- Authorization in week one. With EverStone authorized with the CRA, notices and balances are pulled up directly. If you are switching firms, the old file is requested that week.
- Up to date, then ahead of it. The books are brought current, the first margin and cash reports are built, and a year of deadlines and reporting dates is scheduled before any arrive.

Remote CFO support
CFO support for Mississauga clients is delivered remotely. There is no Mississauga office and no local team. Meetings are virtual, documents are signed electronically, and you deal with the CPA rather than an intake desk. The company’s forecasts and its corporate return draw on one file, so the figures match. EverStone serves owner-managed companies in BC, Alberta, Ontario and Manitoba.
The moment there are employees, payroll in Mississauga becomes the recurring obligation.
The year-end this all feeds into is corporate returns for Mississauga owners.
Strategic decisions run on figures that arrive in time to use, which is a monthly reporting pack.
A company that mainly lacks a timely close and a monthly pack may want a fractional controller instead: narrower scope, lower fee.
