A Fixed-Fee Accountant for Sudbury’s Mining Suppliers, Contractors & Owner-Run Firms
EverStone CPA is a Canadian accounting firm working with incorporated businesses across Greater Sudbury — corporate tax, bookkeeping, payroll and plain-English advice, delivered by video and secure email, at a fixed fee agreed before we start. Businesses in Valley East, Chelmsford, Lively, Garson and nearby Espanola are served the same way.
Who we help here: Mining supply and service companies, contractors and trades, fabricators and small manufacturers, engineering and technical firms, health and professional practices, and the owner-run retail, hospitality and tourism businesses that serve the city and the lake country around it.
Elsewhere in Ontario, EverStone also serves Barrie, Toronto and Ottawa.
Quick answer: Sudbury has plenty of accountants who are busy in tax season and hard to reach the rest of the year. EverStone works with incorporated Sudbury businesses entirely online: corporate tax, HST, bookkeeping, payroll and salary-versus-dividend planning, at a fixed fee quoted up front rather than an hourly meter. For a Sudbury business, published fees start at $100 for a personal return and $300 a month for bookkeeping.
Sudbury industries we work with most: construction and trades, mining supply and service companies, and realtors.
For a one-owner Sudbury corporation, our accounting fees for monthly bookkeeping, payroll and the year-end T2 with statements usually run from $450 to $650 a month all-in.

Careful work, sized for an owner-run Sudbury business
Greater Sudbury describes itself as home to nearly 9,000 small and medium-sized businesses, and most of them are owner-managed. Many end up with one of two arrangements: a large firm whose attention arrives once a year, or a seasonal preparer who files the return but cannot answer the question about the new truck, the second company or the customer who pays in ninety days. We sit in between: a CPA-led firm that treats your T2, HST and year-end statements with real rigour, without the overhead of a local office built into the fee.
Every Sudbury client has one Chartered Professional Accountant who reviews the file personally, year-round — never a junior learning on your return. Meetings happen by video, documents move by secure upload and e-signature, and your fee is fixed and confirmed in writing before any work begins.

How Ontario’s rules shape the numbers for a Sudbury company
One combined sales tax, a corporate rate that changed mid-2026, and a payroll tax that arrives with growth.
One tax, not two
Ontario charges a single 13% HST rather than separate federal and provincial sales taxes. For a Sudbury supplier or contractor that means one registration, one return and one set of input tax credits, with the provincial part recoverable like the federal part. The work moves to invoicing correctly when equipment or services go to customers in other provinces or abroad.
Corporate tax rate
Ontario taxes active small-business income at 2.2% provincially for days after 30 June 2026 (3.2% before that date, prorated across a straddling year), on top of the 9% federal small-business rate, on a $500,000 business limit. The salary-and-dividend mix and the timing of large purchases decide how much profit stays inside that lower bracket.
Employer Health Tax
Once a Sudbury employer’s annual Ontario payroll passes the $1,000,000 exemption, Employer Health Tax applies on top of CPP and EI. Contractors that add a crew or a second company often reach it without realizing the group shares one exemption — we track it so it is never a year-end surprise.
Accounting & tax services for Sudbury businesses
Everything an incorporated Sudbury business needs, under one roof — delivered online.
Corporate Tax (T2)
T2 corporate returns and year-end statements for Sudbury suppliers, contractors and professional corporations, with CCA on equipment, Ontario HST and CRA correspondence handled as part of the file.
Personal Tax (T1)
Personal and self-employed T1 returns for Sudbury owners and families, structured around a salary-and-dividend split and the Ontario surtax rather than whatever was done last year.
Bookkeeping & Payroll
Cloud bookkeeping with job costing, plus payroll, kept current monthly so your numbers are ready when a lender, a customer’s vendor team or a CRA review asks for them.
GST/HST
Ontario’s 13% HST registered, filed and reconciled each period, with out-of-province rates and zero-rated exports handled properly and input tax credits claimed in full.
Financial Statements
Year-end compilations that present contracts in progress, equipment and debt the way a bank or bonding company expects to read them.
Fractional CFO
Part-time CFO support for growing Sudbury companies — cash flow across long payment cycles, margin by contract and equipment financing decisions.
Built around how Sudbury’s suppliers and contractors actually work
Greater Sudbury’s own description of itself starts with mining. The city’s economic development office describes a complex of operating mines, mills, smelters and a nickel refinery, and a supply and services cluster of several hundred local companies built around it: capital equipment and consumables, engineering, mine construction and contracting, mapping, automation and communications. It also lists business and professional services, health care and life sciences, cleantech and environmental, manufacturing, research and innovation, film and creative industries, and tourism as key sectors, and the city is a regional centre for Northeastern Ontario in business services, health care, education and government.
That economy creates its own accounting questions. How should revenue on a contract that runs across the year-end be measured? When should a new truck or machine be bought to get the deduction this year? What rate of HST applies to equipment shipped to a mine in another province, and what records prove an export? How much cash does a large customer’s payment cycle absorb? We work with these businesses on exactly those points, alongside the corporate tax, HST, payroll and year-end statements.

When a strong contract year meets the small-business limit
Many Sudbury contractors and suppliers incorporate for one reason above all: the combined federal-and-Ontario rate on active business income eligible for the small business deduction is far lower than personal rates on the same dollars. In a normal year that is simple — invoice the work, pay yourself a mix of salary and dividends, and let the corporation keep the rest at the lower rate.
The complication arrives with a big year. A large contract, a busy shutdown season or a new customer can push taxable income towards the $500,000 business limit, and income above it is taxed at the general combined rate of 26.5% instead of 11.2%. Because many of these companies also buy equipment and carry long receivables, the year’s taxable income can run well ahead of the cash in the bank. The owner learns the result at filing, when the balance is already due.
The fix is timing, and it only works before the year-end. We look at the projected result a couple of months out, then decide together whether a bonus to the owner, an equipment purchase that was coming anyway, or simply leaving the profit taxed at the general rate is the right answer. We also check whether a second company — for equipment, a new division or a holding company — is associated with the first, because associated companies share one business limit. The alternative is finding out in the spring that last year’s success cost more tax than it needed to.

Working with a virtual small business accountant in Sudbury
Working with a CPA who is not in Sudbury changes nothing about what gets filed. Corporate tax, GST/HST and payroll are federal systems, and Ontario’s corporate tax is administered together with the federal return, so a single T2 covers both. What does change is how the year runs.
Onboarding happens over one video call and a secure document upload rather than a drive across town. Questions in July are answered by the same person who prepared the return in the spring, and nothing waits in a queue behind tax-season walk-ins. For a Sudbury supplier or contractor the recurring work is usually HST on sales to other provinces, CCA on new equipment, instalments once the first profitable year lands, and the business-limit question that arrives with a big contract.
Province-wide detail sits on the Ontario small business page, and every Ontario rate we rely on is listed with its source on the Ontario tax facts page.

What owners say once the work is done

Sudbury industries we work with most
The Sudbury owners we work with are mostly contractors and trades, companies in the mining supply and services chain, small manufacturers and fabricators, and professional and health practices, plus realtors and a steady stream of newly incorporated tradespeople and consultants. The recurring issues are equipment and CCA, contract revenue that crosses the year-end, HST on sales outside Ontario, WSIB for owners in construction, and a few large customers who pay on their own schedule.
Those are file-level problems, not local ones, which is why distance from Sudbury changes nothing about how we handle them. Builders, renovators and site contractors have their own page: accounting for Sudbury trades and contractors. Agents and brokers are a distinct group again: accounting for Sudbury realtors.
How working with a Sudbury business actually runs
No part of a Sudbury engagement asks you to drive anywhere. The first conversation happens on a video call, records arrive through a secure upload instead of a box of paper, and returns are approved by e-signature. Questions during the year are covered as well. An email about a new hire, a large purchase order or a customer contract does not start a meter, since the fee was set in writing at the outset. Asking early is the whole idea, because the useful question comes before the decision.
One CPA stays on your file from the first call to the filed return, so the person who prepared it is also the person who answers your email. For owners in the city or out in Valley East, Lively or Garson, that takes away the trip and the second-guessing about whether a question will cost you.
What a Sudbury client’s year looks like
A Sudbury client’s year is shaped by their fiscal year-end rather than the calendar, and for many contractors by the building season too. Books stay current month to month; we raise planning decisions — bonus versus dividend, timing an equipment purchase, whether to leave profit in the company — before the year closes, when they can still be acted on. HST returns file on their own cycle. The corporate return follows, and the balance owing comes due before the filing deadline, which is the detail that most often catches owners out.
Owner-managed companies elsewhere in Ontario are served the same way. The provincial overview is at accounting in Ontario.
For year-end work specifically, Sudbury financial statements covers contracts in progress, equipment financing and customer concentration.
Services in Sudbury
Two service pages go deeper for Sudbury: personal tax (T1) for owners in Sudbury, and accounting for Sudbury trades and construction businesses. Both run remotely.
Two filings recur so often for Sudbury companies that each has its own page. If you employ anyone, payroll services in Sudbury covers Ontario employer health tax, WSIB and seasonal staff. If you charge sales tax, GST/HST filing in Sudbury covers the single 13% HST, sales to other provinces and the Quick Method question.
Written for particular industries: trades and contractors in Sudbury and realtors in Sudbury.

Remote accounting
EverStone works online and serves Sudbury at a distance. No office or staff are located in Sudbury. Video, email and secure document exchange carry the whole engagement, so being nearby never matters. The CPA who answers you in October is the one who prepared your return in the spring, a continuity that bigger offices often lose.
How a remote engagement works in Ontario
Working with a CPA at a distance is ordinary now, and for an Ontario corporation it changes essentially nothing about how the return is prepared or filed.
- Access through CRA, not forms. You add us under CRA’s Represent a Client from your My Business Account, which takes a few clicks and nothing by mail. From then on we read your filings, balances and CRA letters ourselves instead of asking you to forward each one.
- Records arrive through a secure upload link. Statements, payroll registers and year-end packages come in through the upload link rather than as email attachments, and a phone is enough to send them.
- You sign on screen. The T183 and the engagement letter are signed in a browser window, with no printer, scanner or courier involved.
- Meetings happen by video. Enquiries, planning talks and the year-end review are booked around your calendar, not around a trip into town.
- Returns go where they always went. We transmit to the CRA electronically, and Ontario registry filings go to the Ontario Business Registry online.
What is specific to Ontario
Ontario harmonized its sales tax with the federal GST, so there is no separate provincial sales-tax return to file — one HST return covers both. The provincial corporate return is administered through the federal T2 rather than filed separately, while the corporation’s annual return goes to the Ontario Business Registry within six months of year-end. Employer Health Tax is the main standalone provincial account for Ontario employers, with its own exemption and filing schedule, and WSIB is separate again.
Current Ontario rates and thresholds live on the Ontario tax facts page. Every number on that page cites its source and the date it was last verified, and it lives there alone so it cannot drift out of date elsewhere.
Ontario questions we get
Does it matter that you are not in Sudbury?+
For a corporate return, no. The T2 carries the Ontario schedules and is transmitted federally; nothing about the filing depends on where the preparer works. Provincial employer accounts are registered and filed online in either case.
Do you work with Sudbury construction and trades businesses?+
Do you work with businesses outside Sudbury itself?+
